Skyshot

Turn Skyshot on for a page, then click its icon on a photo of the night sky: where it points, how wide it is, what it shows.

Discover what a photograph of the night sky shows, directly from the page where you find it. Turn on Skyshot with its toolbar button. Point at a sky photo and click the Skyshot icon to open it in Skyshot, or choose Solve all to identify suitable photos on the page. Result badges show the subject, field size and sky coordinates. You can also right-click a photo and choose Solve with Skyshot, open a link to an image or FITS file, or open a web page in Skyshot's Web tab. Explore the result in Skyshot with object labels, a coordinate grid, field geometry and a 3D sky view. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS Photos are decoded and their stars detected in your browser. The solver receives star positions and brightnesses, image dimensions and your Skyshot access token or API key; the image itself is not uploaded. The service processes network and request information as explained in the Privacy Policy. The extension acts on pages you choose. Optional access to all sites lets it fetch photos that cannot otherwise be read, including selected photos from sites where you are signed in. This uses your existing cookies for that site's photo request. You can use the extension without granting access to all sites, with more limited fetching. ACCESS AND LIMITS The extension uses the same Skyshot access as the web app. Limited demo access is available; a free account or a Skyshot API key can be used in the app. Usage limits apply. Very narrow telescope fields, illustrations and images with too few stars may not be identified. Available in English and Polish. Requires Chrome 120 or later.
