CtrlKid for YouTube – Parental Control for Kids
Overview
Safe YouTube for kids: parents choose topics and channels, and only matching videos play. Works with the CtrlKid desktop app.
Your child’s activity never leaves your computer. Nothing is sent to CtrlKid or anyone else. A YouTube filter and parental control for kids: block YouTube videos you haven’t approved. You build a YouTube whitelist of topics and channels, such as science, math or drawing, and only matching videos can play. Free: 5 topics. CtrlKid for YouTube turns YouTube into a place to learn. Instead of a search box and endless recommendations, your child sees topic buttons you chose, like robotics, coding, math, science or art, and only videos matching those topics can play. What it does: - Topic buttons replace YouTube's search box, so your child can only search topics you approved - Search results show only videos that match your approved topics - Any other video is blocked, even if it's opened from a link or a Google search result - Shorts are hidden - The homepage feed, "Up next" recommendations and autoplay are switched off - Approve whole channels you trust (e.g. @MathAntics) or whole categories (e.g. Education) - Lots of topics? Extra ones go in a "More topics" menu with its own search - Settings are protected by a password - Parent pause: one PIN turns filtering off for 30 min, 1 h, 2 h or until you turn it back on - Back up and restore your topics to a file - Works with Japanese and other languages written without spaces Private by design: no account, no tracking, no analytics. Video titles and categories are checked inside your browser and nothing is sent to us. Free: 5 topics. Pro (with the CtrlKid desktop app): unlimited topics and channels, managed from one shared list. New installs get unlimited topics free for 30 days, then 5 topics unless you upgrade. The free version shows a small "CtrlKid Pro" message after a video ends. The optional CtrlKid desktop app (Windows/Linux) adds a keyword watchlist, screen time limits, activity logs and phone alerts: https://ctrlkid.com Not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google. Version 2.8.3 • New: a search box. Your child can search YouTube, but only videos that match your approved topics are shown. You can turn it off in the extension settings, or in the CtrlKid desktop app. • New: "Ask for a topic". Your child can ask for a new topic, and you approve or deny it in the extension settings or in the CtrlKid desktop app. • Fixed: YouTube players embedded on other websites are now checked too, so they can't play unapproved videos. • New: a warning when the extension isn't allowed in private windows, with the steps to fix it. • Works with CtrlKid desktop 2.7.3. Parent pause now uses your admin password.
