Overview

Free internet speed test in your toolbar: check WiFi download & upload speed, ping and jitter in 20 seconds. No ads, no sign-up.

Pulse Internet Speed Test is a free Chrome extension that measures your internet connection's download speed, upload speed, ping and jitter in about 20 seconds, directly from the Chrome toolbar. Pulse runs every test against Cloudflare's global speed-test network, which spans more than 330 cities, so your connection is automatically tested against a nearby server. WHAT PULSE MEASURES - Download speed in Mbps: how fast data reaches your computer (streaming, downloads, loading pages). - Upload speed in Mbps: how fast data leaves your computer (video calls, sending files, cloud backups). - Ping (latency) in milliseconds: how quickly your connection responds (gaming, calls). - Jitter in milliseconds: how stable your ping is (lower means smoother calls and games). WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE PULSE - One click: open the toolbar popup and press Start. No new tab and no website to visit. - Live animated gauge and live graph that show your speed as it is measured. - Plain-English result: Pulse tells you if your connection is good enough for 4K streaming, HD video calls or online gaming. - Test history: your last 20 results are saved on your own device so you can compare WiFi and cable, or morning and evening. - Works on any connection: home WiFi, office network, mobile hotspot or fiber, from under 1 Mbps up to 1 Gbps. - Free, with no ads, no account and no tracking. HOW PULSE MEASURES YOUR SPEED Pulse measures ping by timing 12 small requests and reporting the median, and it reports jitter as the average change between those 12 results. Download speed is measured with 5 parallel connections for 9 seconds, and upload speed with 3 parallel connections for 9 seconds. Pulse ignores the first 30% of each test, while the connection is still speeding up, so the final number reflects your real sustained speed. WHAT IS A GOOD INTERNET SPEED? - 100 Mbps or more download with ping under 40 ms: excellent. Handles 4K streaming, large downloads and gaming at the same time. - 25 to 100 Mbps: great. Smooth 4K video and fast video calls. - 10 to 25 Mbps: good. HD streaming and video calls work well. - 3 to 10 Mbps: fair. Fine for browsing and standard-definition video. - Under 3 Mbps: slow. Basic browsing only. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How long does a speed test take? A Pulse speed test takes about 20 seconds: about 1 second for ping, 9 seconds for download and 9 seconds for upload. Is Pulse Internet Speed Test free? Yes. Pulse is completely free, has no ads and does not require an account. Does Pulse collect my data? No. Pulse does not collect, sell or share any personal data. Your test history is stored only in your own browser. Why is my WiFi speed lower than my internet plan? WiFi speed is often lower than the plan speed because of distance from the router, walls, other devices on the network and 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz bands. Run Pulse next to your router, then in another room, to compare. Which server does Pulse use? Pulse uses Cloudflare's public speed-test service (speed.cloudflare.com) and automatically connects to the nearest Cloudflare location. The location code, for example DXB for Dubai, is shown at the top of the popup. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED - Storage: saves your recent test results on your device. - Access to speed.cloudflare.com: needed to send and receive test data, which is how speed is measured. Pulse cannot read or change any website you visit.
