Overview

Measures ad density like a Better Ads reviewer and shows which ads Chrome's ad tagging, behind CrUX ad metrics, counts or misses.

Ad Density Checker by Natzir is a free, open-source Chrome extension that measures a page's ad density the way a reviewer of Google's Ad Experience Report would, following the Better Ads Standards, and compares it with what Chrome tags as an ad, which is what ends up in CrUX ad metrics. WHO IT'S FOR Publishers, SEOs and ad-ops teams whose sites live on ads and who want to check their pages before Google does. WHY IT MATTERS • A site that breaks the Better Ads Standards gets a warning in Google's Ad Experience Report, and if the problem is still there 30 days later, Chrome filters out every ad on the site for that device type. • Ads also weigh on SEO. Google can rank pages with intrusive interstitials lower on mobile, and its page experience guidance asks whether ads distract from or interfere with the main content, recommending CrUX ad metrics to check them. • Its mobile-first indexing guide asks sites to follow the Better Ads Standard on mobile, its Quality Rater Guidelines rate pages with distracting ads as Low, and sites have recovered from core updates after cutting their ads. • Chrome only counts the ads its own filter list tags. Ad networks it misses, house ads, empty labelled slots, ad gates and interstitials can leave CrUX looking clean while a reviewer would still fail the page. WHAT YOU GET • A Better Ads verdict, with ad density against the limits (30% on mobile, 50% on desktop), large sticky ads and pop-ups, ad gates included. • Two views of the same test, Real and Chrome, to see which ads Chrome misses and what it tags that isn't an ad. • Chrome's own viewport figures next to real-user CrUX data (with a free API key). • A snapshot of the whole page with every ad marked and the reason, to open or download alone or side by side. Run the test on mobile or desktop and the extension scrolls down the page like a reader, screen by screen, measuring each ad. Everything runs in your browser, with no account and no tracking.
