Hebrew Subtitle Translator
Overview
Translates Hebrew subtitles burned into videos into Russian, English, Ukrainian or French.
Hebrew Subtitle Translator reads the Hebrew subtitles burned into a video and shows their translation right over the picture: in Russian, English, Ukrainian or French. It is made for Israeli TV programs and documentaries on YouTube and also works with other videos whose subtitles are part of the picture, such as white letters at the bottom of the frame. HOW TO USE 1. Open a video with Hebrew subtitles in the picture and play it. 2. Click the extension icon and turn on “Translate on this tab”, or press Alt+T. 3. The translation appears over the subtitle about one and a half to two seconds after it and stays long enough to read. On pause it stays on screen. WHAT IT CAN DO • Three views: instead of the original, above the original, or the recognised Hebrew together with the translation. • Line feed in the side panel: every translated line of the video with its time. Click a line to go back to it in the video. • Subtitle frame: if a video has its subtitles elsewhere, drag the frame onto them. The extension remembers it for the site. • Hold Alt+O to see the original while the key is held. • Text size, colour, background and position. Interface in English, Russian, Hebrew, Ukrainian and French, with light and dark themes. • Offline translator: when the server is slow or the daily limit is used up, Chrome’s built-in translator translates the line on your computer. • Works in full screen, on pause and after seeking. If a video’s subtitles are not in Hebrew, the extension turns itself off on that video. PRIVACY The extension works only on the tab where you turn it on, and it recognises the subtitles on your computer. To translate a line, it sends our server the line’s Hebrew text, a few previous lines and the video title. When a line can’t be read reliably, an image of the subtitle strip goes instead; you can turn this off in the options. The page address and your browsing history are not sent. Details are in the privacy policy. GOOD TO KNOW • Only subtitles that are part of the picture are read. Subtitles that YouTube shows with the CC button are not. • Protected (DRM) videos can’t be translated: the extension says so instead of showing nonsense. • New lines are translated for up to four hours a day per installation. Lines our server has translated before come without a limit. • Chrome and Edge on a computer. TEST VERSION This is a test version for a small group of testers. If something goes wrong, tell the person who invited you: which video, about which minute, and what happened.
