OpenTool
Overview
Chat with any LLM in your sidebar. Bring your own API key, plus agentic page actions.
OpenTool puts an AI assistant in Chrome's side panel, running on your own API key. Bring your own model. Choose a provider from the built-in list, or point OpenTool at any endpoint that speaks the standard chat-completions protocol — including a model server running locally on your own machine. There is no OpenTool account and no OpenTool server. Your key is stored on your machine and sent only to the provider it belongs to. It can see the page you're on. Ask a question about the tab in front of you and the assistant reads it — the accessibility tree, the text, the console, the network log — instead of guessing. It can act on the page, with your permission. Click, type, fill forms, navigate, switch tabs, take screenshots. Every action that changes a page is gated: you either confirm each one, approve a plan up front, or grant a specific action type on a specific site. Grants are listed and revocable in Settings. Banking and payment origins always ask, and a small set of actions — placing securities trades, entering card or SSN details — is refused outright. It can learn a task by watching once. Press record, do the task, press stop. The assistant reads the recording back and repeats the flow. The text you type is never recorded — only that a field was filled — and password, payment, and one-time-code fields are redacted. Save any page as Markdown. One button turns the page you're reading into a real Markdown file — headings, lists, tables, links and code blocks, converted from the live page rather than summarised by a model. It saves the page's main content and leaves the nav and footer out, and the file says which part it converted. The conversion runs entirely on your machine; nothing is uploaded, and nothing you have typed into the page is read. No server, no analytics, no telemetry. Conversations, keys, and settings live in local Chrome storage. Nothing is sent anywhere until you send a message, and then it goes to the one provider you chose and to nobody else.
