Overview

Dual subtitles, word lookup, transcript, speed and frame stepping on YouTube and Netflix.

Learn a language from the videos you already watch. Babylone shows two subtitles at once on YouTube and Netflix — the language you are learning on top, your own language underneath — and turns every word into something you can look up, hear and save. WHAT YOU GET • Dual subtitles — the platform's own subtitle plus a second one in any language YouTube or Netflix offers (YouTube also machine-translates into languages with no track). Pick the second subtitle right inside YouTube's subtitles menu or Netflix's audio & subtitles pop-up. • A dictionary on every word — hover for the translation, romanisation and the ✓ known / 📖 to-learn buttons; click for the full entry: senses by part of speech, the line in context with its translation, examples, and links to Jisho, Naver, Wiktionary, Forvo and more. Words are explained in the language of your second subtitle. • Real word segmentation — Japanese (kuromoji) and Chinese (jieba) are split into real words with readings; Korean (Kiwi) is split into its words, particles and verb endings so the dictionary form is what gets looked up. • Mark and mine — right-click cycles a word to learn → known → normal; a star saves the whole line. With a Babylone account, everything syncs within seconds. • A clickable transcript — every line with its translation, the current one lit; click to jump. A panel over the player, one tap away in fullscreen; on YouTube also folded above the suggested videos. • Speed up to 16× — big arrows and a compact list in the player's own control bar; per tab, fixed, or your last speed. • Keyboard shortcuts on physical keys — the same on AZERTY, QWERTY and QWERTZ: previous / next / replay line, frame stepping, toggle each subtitle line, save, speed. All remappable. • Touch friendly — a bar under the subtitles and gestures on the video (swipe, double-tap, hold for 2×) for tablets and phones. • Your player, your way — the control bar appears only when your pointer reaches the bottom; subtitles never jump; drag them anywhere; on Netflix no fade-to-black or title card while paused. • YouTube extras — the dislike count is back (Return YouTube Dislike), Shorts open in the normal player, and a Download button that saves the video as an MP4 (up to 1080p, with sound) the way the browser saves any file: the save dialog, then the download in the background. • Your words, everywhere — a word marked in the extension shows up in the Babylone app within seconds, and a status changed or a word deleted in the app comes back to the extension (two-way sync). • In your language — the words Babylone writes on the page (the Download button, the dislike count, the menus) follow the page's own language. HOW IT WORKS Babylone reads the subtitle tracks the player itself loads and draws its own overlay on top. Nothing is uploaded from the videos you watch: word lookups go to public dictionary services (Google Translate's dictionary endpoint, Wiktionary, MyMemory) one word at a time, and the only data that leaves your browser otherwise is the vocabulary you choose to save to your Babylone account. Works on www.youtube.com, m.youtube.com and www.netflix.com. A free Babylone account (babylone.web.app) is optional and only needed to sync saved words across devices and into the Babylone app's flashcards. Babylone is not affiliated with YouTube, Google and Netflix.
