# Easy Video Splitter - Browser Extension **Split and Edit Videos Directly in Your Browser – No Server Upload Required!** ## 🚀 Features - **100% Local Processing**: Your videos consistently stay on your device. - **Privacy First**: No data is ever uploaded to a cloud server. - **Fast & Secure**: Leveraging your browser's capabilities for secure and rapid video editing. - **Format Support**: Supports common formats like MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and more. - **Precise Cutting**: Cut by time or by frame number; split your videos into multiple segments with just a few clicks. - **No Installation**: Runs entirely as a lightweight browser extension. ## ✨ Feature Details ### Visual Dual-Track Timeline - **Selection track** (top): Yellow dashed region is the current selection — **press and drag to paint a range**; a plain click only moves the playhead and never alters your selection - **Segments track** (bottom): Purple blocks are confirmed segments — **press and drag to scrub**, the video preview follows in real time - **Timeline zoom**: 🔍± zooms ×1–×16 (centered on the playhead), with a pan slider when zoomed; the view auto-follows the playhead during playback - Real-time video preview while dragging selection or segment handles - Snap-to-edge: handles snap to segment boundaries (🧲 toggle, **off by default**) - Floating action buttons (add/play above the selection, play/delete below the selected segment) track the zoom automatically ### Time / Frame Cutting Modes - A **Time / Frames** radio switches the whole editor between the two units - Switching to frame mode **auto-detects the video's frame rate** (via ffprobe); you can override the FPS manually (useful for VFR videos) - In frame mode: start/end snap to frame boundaries, ←/→ steps one frame, and Quick Split offers "every N frames" - Note: Fast mode cuts at keyframes and is not frame-exact — use Encode mode for frame-accurate cuts ### Quick Split - **Split by count**: Divide video into N equal parts - **Split by duration**: Auto-split every N seconds - **Split by frames**: Auto-split every N frames (in frame mode) - Option to clear existing segments or append (append is the default) ### Precise Time / Frame Editing - Time inputs accept direct typing in `MM:SS.mmm` or `HH:MM:SS.mmm` format - Frame mode inputs accept integer frame numbers - Invalid input flashes red and reverts to the previous value - Click segment list items to inline-edit start/end times or frames ### Keyboard Shortcuts - `I` / `O`: Set start / end point - `S`: Split the segment under the playhead in two at the current time - `Enter`: Add the current selection as a segment - `←` / `→`: Nudge the playhead (±1 second in time mode, ±1 frame in frame mode; hold Shift for 5×) - `[` / `]`: Jump to the previous / next boundary of saved segments or the pending selection (wraps around) - `Space`: Play / pause - `Esc`: Deselect segment - `Backspace` / `Delete`: Remove selected segment - `Ctrl/Cmd+Z`: Undo the last segment edit (add, delete, clear, drag, inline edit, quick split, split at playhead) - `Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z` / `Ctrl+Y`: Redo ### Segment Management - Click a segment to select it (the playhead stays put); the selected segment gets priority for handle dragging - Selected segment shows play and delete buttons below the timeline - Each segment has a ▶/⏹ play button that auto-pauses at segment end - Adding a duplicate segment shows a "segment already exists" notice - Clearing all segments asks for confirmation - When two segments share a boundary, dragging prioritizes the selected segment ### Auto-Save & Restore - The cut list and pending selection are **auto-saved per video file** (matched by name, size and modification time) in local extension storage - Reopening the same video — even after closing the tab — restores your segments with a notice - Switching to a different video starts with a clean state; each file keeps its own saved project ### Export - All segments are **packed into a single zip download**, avoiding the browser's multiple-download block - Exports can be **cancelled** at any time - **Fast Mode** (Stream Copy): instant, lossless cutting (recommended) - **Encode Mode**: Re-encodes for better compatibility and frame-exact cuts, but slower - **Copy ffmpeg commands**: the 📋 button copies the cut list as local ffmpeg CLI commands (matching the current mode) — the fallback for files too large for in-browser processing (>2GB) ### Video Resizing - Custom width/height with aspect ratio lock - Uses scale + crop to avoid black bars ### Switch Video - Both the split page and the resize page have a **🔄 Switch Video** button — swap in a new file in place without going back to the upload screen - Switching with pending segments asks for confirmation first - The ← Back button on the resize page returns to the split page ## 📖 How to Use 1. **Install** the extension from the Chrome Web Store. 2. Click the extension icon to open the app (opens in a new tab for performance). 3. **Drag & Drop** your video file into the upload area. 4. **Edit**: - **Press and drag** on the selection track to paint a range (a plain click only seeks). - Drag the yellow handles to fine-tune, or use the `I`/`O` keys or the numeric inputs. - Press and drag on the segments track to scrub; zoom in with 🔍 for precise ranges on long videos. - Switch to **Frames** mode to cut by frame number (FPS auto-detected, editable). - Click `+ Add Segment` to save the selection as a segment. - Or use "Quick Split" to auto-generate multiple segments. - Click a segment in the list to select and edit it. - Click the ▶ button on a segment to preview it. 5. **Export**: - Choose **Fast Mode** (Stream Copy) for instant cutting. - Choose **Encode Mode** for better compatibility and frame-exact cuts. - Click "Export All" — all segments download as a single zip file. 6. **Switch video**: Click 🔄 Switch Video to pick a new file without leaving the page. ## 🌍 Languages Supports **English** and **Chinese (中文)**. It does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data or video content. All processing happens locally on your machine.
