Overview
Dub YouTube & more with AI translation that follows the context, not word for word. Synced to the speaker, even without captions.
EarDub is a Chrome and Edge extension that translates and dubs online videos into your language while you watch, with AI translation that follows the context. It works out what the video is about, the tone to keep and which terms keep coming up, then translates whole sentences with that in mind, so you hear what the speaker means instead of a word-for-word rendering. The voice is prepared just ahead of the picture, so each sentence starts when the speaker starts, instead of trailing a sentence behind. There's nothing for you to upload or download, and no waiting for the whole video to process: the voice starts within seconds. • Context-aware translation: whole sentences, consistent names and terms, and idioms translated by meaning, not word for word. • With captions (auto-generated ones count): YouTube, Udemy, Coursera, Bilibili (when you're signed in to Bilibili) and other sites, on every plan. • Videos without captions: EarDub recognizes the speech from audio the player has already loaded, so the voice stays in step with the picture (Basic and Pro plans). Already works on YouTube, X, Bilibili and more, with new sites added regularly. • 75 languages and 300+ natural AI voices with regional accents. • Built for online courses: allow Udemy or Coursera once and EarDub carries on into the next lecture by itself. Replaying a part you've already heard doesn't use more minutes. • Free plan: 30 minutes a day, no credit card. Basic: 60 hours a month for $9.99. Sign in with Google, Microsoft or email. Listen instead of reading subtitles, and keep your eyes on the slides, the code or the recipe. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open a video and click the EarDub button in the player, or press Shift+D. 2. Pick your language and voice. It starts in your browser's language. 3. Press play. EarDub stays a few sentences ahead. Pause and it pauses; jump to another point and it picks up from there. TRANSLATION THAT FOLLOWS THE CONTEXT • Video-level context: when the video has captions, EarDub reads them first to note the topic, the tone and form of address to keep, and the terms that recur; without captions, it builds that context from the title and the speech recognized so far. Every sentence is also translated with the lines just before and after it. • Whole sentences: caption fragments are merged into full sentences before translation, so you hear complete thoughts. • Consistent names and terms: a glossary for each video keeps people, products and jargon on one standard translation, and context helps correct names the captions may have misheard. Code and commands are kept as they are wherever they can be recognized. • Idioms by meaning: in a business talk about competitors, "eat your lunch" means taking your customers or market share, so that's how it's translated, not as a sentence about food. • The right register: a lecture stays formal, a casual vlog stays casual, and the form of address doesn't drift halfway through. WHAT MAKES IT SOUND NATURAL • Timing that follows the speaker: each line is timed to the original speech, and is designed to finish without being cut off, speeding up by at most 1.45x for fast speakers. • Male and female voices with accents such as Australian, Indian or Irish English; Mexican, Argentine or Colombian Spanish; Gulf, Levantine or Moroccan Arabic. Switch voices mid-video. • Your mix: separate volume for the original sound and the dub. • Bilingual subtitles: show, resize (14–28 px) or hide them. LANGUAGES Choose from English (US and UK), Spanish (Latin America and Spain), Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), French (France and Canada), German, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Dutch, Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Tamil, Indonesian, Malay, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, Swahili and more: 75 in total. Search the list by name. The original video can be in any language: EarDub detects it, or you can set it yourself. WHEN BUILT-IN AUTO-DUBBING ISN'T AVAILABLE YouTube's own auto-dubbing only appears where the creator turned it on, and only for some language pairs. EarDub works whatever the creator chose, and you pick the voice. GOOD FOR • Online lectures and courses • Tutorials, talks, interviews and documentaries in another language • Listening while you cook, commute or work • Family members who find subtitles tiring PLANS • Free: 30 minutes a day (up to 180 minutes a month), up to 3 a day, each up to 60 minutes, with captions. No credit card. • Basic: $9.99/month or $89/year. 60 hours a month, up to 3 hours per video, up to 20 a day. Includes videos without captions. • Pro: $19.99/month or $179/year. No limit on time, length or number per day (fair use; details on eardub.com/pricing). Includes videos without captions. FAQ How good is the translation? EarDub translates with the video's context, keeps names and terms consistent and renders idioms by meaning, aiming to say what the speaker meant. Quality still depends on the original captions or audio, the language pair and how complex the content is. No machine translation is perfect: turn on bilingual subtitles if you want to check a line against the original. Is it real time? Yes. EarDub works in real time on recorded videos, while you watch, staying a few sentences ahead of the picture. Is it free? Yes: 30 minutes a day, up to 3 videos, no credit card. Dubbing without captions needs Basic or Pro. Can I listen instead of reading subtitles? Yes. The translation is read aloud, in step with the picture. Does it work without captions? Yes, with Basic or Pro, within your plan's limits: EarDub recognizes the speech itself. Supported sites keep growing; see eardub.com for the current list. Any video with captions works on every plan, auto-generated ones included. Does it work on my phone? It's built for desktop Chrome and Microsoft Edge. On Android it runs in the Vivaldi browser for videos with captions. iPhone, iPad and mobile apps aren't supported. PRIVACY • Nothing starts until you click. • It runs on YouTube by default, on other supported sites only after you allow them, and elsewhere only when you choose "Dub this video". • Subtitle text and the video's title go to EarDub's servers for translation and speech generation. If there are no subtitles, the audio is sent in short pieces for speech recognition while you listen, and isn't stored. • To keep the service working, EarDub also records which site and page it ran on and how its own buttons are used. It doesn't look at the other pages you visit. GOOD TO KNOW • All speakers share the one voice you pick. • Some embedded players (such as Vimeo embeds on other websites) aren't supported. • EarDub is independent and not affiliated with Google or any site it works on.
