Overview

Show a second subtitle line on video sites: a private on-device translation of the show's subtitles, or your own .srt/.vtt file.

Watch with two subtitles at once: the show's own subtitles, and a second line in the language you choose, right underneath. Great for learning a language, watching with family who speak another language, or checking a translation. HOW IT WORKS • Turn on the subtitles in the video player as usual. • Dual Subtitles reads them and shows a translation directly under the original line. • Choose from about 40 languages. The show's language is detected automatically. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Translation is done by Chrome's built-in translator, on your own computer. • Your subtitles and viewing are never sent to the developer or any server. • No accounts, no ads, no tracking. • The first time you use a language pair, Chrome downloads a language pack once. After that it works offline. USE YOUR OWN SUBTITLE FILE • Load any .srt or .vtt file as the second line instead of a translation. • Adjust the timing in half-second steps if it's out of sync. MAKE IT YOURS • Put the second line under or above the original subtitles, or at a fixed height. • Change the text size and colour, and turn the dark background on or off. • Works in fullscreen. • Press Alt+Shift+S to turn it on or off. The status line in the extension's menu tells you what it sees on the page, such as whether subtitles were found or a language pack is needed. REQUIREMENTS • Desktop Chrome 138 or newer (the built-in translator isn't available on phones or in other browsers). • Works with most video players that show subtitles as text. Players that draw subtitles as images can't be read, but your own subtitle file still works there.
