Learn French or English while you watch. Dual Subtitles shows English and French captions at the same time on YouTube videos, one line above the other, so you can compare them as you listen. HOW IT WORKS •⁠ ⁠Play any YouTube video that has captions, including auto-generated ones. •⁠ ⁠The extension shows English in white and French in yellow over the video. •⁠ ⁠If a video only has one of the two languages, the other is created with YouTube's built-in auto-translate. HOVER TO LEARN Hover over any word in either subtitle line and the video pauses while a panel shows: •⁠ ⁠The part of speech and definitions •⁠ ⁠An example sentence, with an English translation for French examples •⁠ ⁠Synonyms Conjugated French verbs point back to their base form, so hovering "allons" shows the meaning of "aller". Move away and the video resumes. MAKE IT YOURS •⁠ ⁠Show both languages or just one •⁠ ⁠Put French on top or on the bottom •⁠ ⁠Adjust the text size •⁠ ⁠Hide YouTube's own captions •⁠ ⁠Turn word lookup, pausing, examples and synonyms on or off PRIVACY No account, no tracking, no ads. Your settings are stored in Chrome's sync storage. The only outside requests are word lookups sent to Wiktionary and Datamuse when you hover a word. GOOD TO KNOW •⁠ ⁠Works on videos that have captions. If YouTube's CC button is greyed out, there are no captions to show. •⁠ ⁠Translation quality depends on YouTube's auto-translate. •⁠ ⁠Definitions, examples and synonyms come from Wiktionary (CC BY-SA), with extra English synonyms from Datamuse.
