Dual Subtitles – Learn Languages with Videos

See two subtitle lines at once: the language spoken in the video, and your own. Replay any line or auto-pause to learn languages.

This extension adds dual subtitles to videos, for language learning. You watch with two lines at once. The top line shows what is being said, in the video's own language. The bottom line shows the same words in your language. That way you can learn languages from YouTube videos you already like. How it works - Open a video that has captions, made by people or auto-generated. Both lines appear on their own. - The bottom line is in your browser's language. You can pick another language from the extension's menu. - The top line follows the language spoken in the video. On a dubbed video, the extension switches the audio back to the original, so what you hear matches what you read. - The translation comes from YouTube's own captions. If YouTube can't translate a video, you get the original line only. Study shortcuts - A: go back one line - S: replay the line - D: jump to the next line - Q: auto-pause on or off. The video stops at the end of each line, so you have time to read it. - C or the CC button: hide or show both lines YouTube's own keys keep working. The shortcuts never fire while you type in the search box or a comment. It works on YouTube in normal, theater and fullscreen views. Privacy You don't need an account, and it's free to use. The extension reads the captions of the video you're watching, inside your browser, and sends nothing to its developer. There are no ads and no tracking. Chrome saves your settings, and if you use Chrome sync, they follow you to your other computers. If a video has no captions, the extension says so and stays out of the way.
