Drive Duplicate Finder finds exact duplicate files in your Google Drive and helps you free up space: you decide which copies to remove, and the extension moves them to the Drive trash. WHAT IT DOES • Scans your whole Google Drive or a folder you pick. • Finds exact duplicates: compares file size first, then the MD5 checksum calculated by Google. A matching MD5 means identical content, not just "similar". • Shows duplicates in groups with thumbnails, path, modified date and size, so you see how much space you can free. • Filters by type (photos, videos, documents), minimum size and folder. • Helps you choose copies: keep the oldest, keep the newest, or select all but the first. • Moves the selected files to the Google Drive trash after you confirm. • Exports the list of duplicates to CSV. • Shows progress, lets you cancel, and resumes after an interruption. SAFE BY DESIGN • Scanning is read-only: the extension asks for drive.readonly, which cannot change anything in your Drive. • File contents are never downloaded or read; only metadata is used (name, size, MD5, type, dates, folder). • Write access (the drive scope) is requested only when you first click "Move selected to trash". • Files are never deleted permanently: they go to the Drive trash, where you can restore them. • Nothing happens without your confirmation. • No servers, analytics or ads. Data stays in your browser; the only service contacted is the Google Drive API. • You can revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO • It does not delete files permanently or empty the trash. • It does not look for "similar" files, only exact copies. • It does not compare Google Docs, Sheets, Slides or shortcuts: Drive provides no checksum for them. They are counted separately as "Not checked". • It does not scan Shared Drives.
