Drag OCR Translate

)Overview
Toggle with the icon or a shortcut, drag to select an area, OCR it locally, translate, and overlay the translation on the selection.
Drag OCR Translate translates text on any web page — text baked into images, canvases, in-browser PDFs, pages you can't select from, and ordinary selectable text. TWO WAYS TO TRANSLATE • Drag mode (OCR). Press the shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+Y / Cmd+Shift+Y) or click the toolbar icon, drag a box around the text, fine-tune it with the corner/edge handles, then press Enter. The extension captures just that region, runs OCR on your device, and shows the translation in a small card on the page. • Select mode (no OCR). Press its shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+U / Cmd+Shift+U), then simply highlight normal text — a small translate button appears next to your selection. Click it to translate the selection instantly, straight from the page text. KEY FEATURES • Fully on-device by default — OCR runs locally (WebAssembly) and translation runs locally too using Chrome's built-in AI. Nothing leaves your computer. • Auto-routing translation pairs — set rules like "Spanish → English", "Japanese → English", "English → French". The source language is detected automatically; the first matching rule wins; otherwise a default target is used. Around 130 languages. • Choose your translation engine (Settings): - On-device (Chrome AI) — no key, offline, private (default). - Google (online) — Google's public endpoint, no key. - Google Cloud Translation — paste your own API key. - OpenAI (GPT) — paste your own API key and pick a model. API keys are stored only on your device and sent only to the provider you choose. • Interface in your browser's language (English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese). • Bundled OCR for 35 languages/scripts (Latin, CJK, Cyrillic, Arabic, Devanagari, Thai, Khmer, Burmese and more) — pick which ones to enable. • Line breaks and paragraphs in the source text are kept in the translation. • Press Esc to dismiss. Nothing is left covering the page. PRIVACY • No account, no login, no analytics, no tracking. • With the default on-device engine, no data leaves your computer at all. • If you switch to an online engine, only the text — recognized or highlighted — is sent to the service you choose (Google / Google Cloud / OpenAI), never to the developer. • Your settings sync with your Chrome profile; API keys never sync. Full policy: https://drag-ocr-translate.vercel.app/privacy.html NOTES • The on-device engine downloads a small language model on first use of each language. Languages it doesn't support fall back to "Google (online)". • Select mode is turned on per tab with its shortcut; it does not run in the background. • Does not run on Chrome system pages (chrome://…), the Web Store, or local files without file access. • Requires Chrome 138 or newer (for the built-in AI).
