It runs quietly in the background and automatically directs incoming downloads into designated subfolders inside your Downloads directory—organized by website, specific page path, or file category. WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH DOWNROUTE • Automatic Per-Website Routing Save downloads from specific domains into their own dedicated folders. For example, send downloads from your work portals into "Work/Projects" and personal site files into "Personal". • Specific Page Path Matching Need different folders for different sections of the same site? Check "Apply to specific path only" to route files based on the active URL path (for example, route site pages ending in /reports to "Reports" and pages ending in /invoices to "Invoices"). • Native System Folder Picker Click "Choose Folder" to pick an existing directory from your computer. IMPORTANT NOTE ON CHROME SECURITY Chrome has a strict built-in security sandbox that prevents browser extensions from writing files outside of your computer's designated Downloads directory. DownRoute creates and organizes custom subfolders INSIDE your default Downloads folder (for example: ~/Downloads/Work/Invoices/ or C:\Users\YourName\Downloads\Design\Projects\). This is an intentional security feature built into Chrome to protect your computer. 100% PRIVATE & OFFLINE • No user tracking • No analytics or telemetry • No remote servers or third-party API calls • All rules and settings stay strictly on your local device HOW TO GET STARTED (Takes 30 seconds) 1. Click the DownRoute icon in your browser toolbar while visiting any site. 2. Enter your desired folder name (or pick one from the quick suggestions). 3. Click "Save for this Site". Every future download from that site will now land in your organized subfolder. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED • "Manage your downloads": Needed to intercept download file paths using Chrome's download manager API and route them to your chosen subfolders. • "Storage": Needed to save your routing rules and preferences locally on your computer. • "Read current active tab": Only used when you open the popup to identify the active website URL so you can set up a routing rule in a single click.
