Download Sorter
Overview
Files your downloads into subfolders automatically, following your own rules.
Download Sorter files each download into a subfolder as it arrives, so you don't have to move it afterwards. You write the rules; the extension applies the first one that matches. A rule looks at the file's extension, the site it came from, or a word in its name, and points at a destination folder. Folder paths accept tokens, so Invoices/{year} starts a fresh folder every January, and By site/{site} keeps one folder per source. Seven rules are active on installation. Edit them, reorder them to change which one wins, switch them off, or write your own. Main features • Rules matched on the extension, the source site, or a keyword in the filename • First match wins — the order of the list sets the priority • Tokens in folder paths: {year}, {month}, {day}, {domain}, {site}, {ext} • A panel listing what was filed recently, with a search box, that reopens a file or shows it in its folder • One switch to pause sorting without uninstalling • Your choice when a file of that name already exists: number it, overwrite it, or ask Privacy Everything happens on your computer. No account, no server, no analytics, and nothing is sent anywhere. Your rules follow your Chrome profile if you use Chrome sync; the list of filed files stays on the machine. Permissions, and why each one is needed • downloads — to set the destination folder while a download is starting. This is the feature itself. • downloads.open — to reopen a filed file from the panel. • storage — to keep your rules and the recent list. One limitation, stated up front Chrome only lets an extension file into your Downloads folder. Filing onto another drive, or into your Documents folder, is impossible for any extension — it is a browser restriction, not a missing feature.
