Download Router
Overview
Sorts downloads into folders by file type: images, documents, videos, archives and more. Every rule is editable.
Download Router keeps your Downloads folder tidy. Every file you download goes straight into a subfolder that matches its type, with no extra clicks. What it does - Sorts downloads into Downloads/Images, Documents, Videos, Audio, Archives, Programs and more, as they arrive - 13 ready-made rules covering 143 file extensions - Edit, reorder, pause or delete any rule, or add your own - Group as many extensions as you like into one rule, for example pdf, docx and txt into Documents - Optional date folders, such as Images/2026-10 - Optional folder for file types no rule covers - Choose what happens when a file with the same name exists: keep both, replace, or ask - A "Try a file name" box shows exactly where a file will go - The toolbar popup lists recently sorted files and has one switch to pause sorting Privacy Download Router has no servers, no analytics and no tracking. Your rules and a short list of recently sorted file names are stored only in your browser. Good to know - Browsers only let extensions save inside your Downloads folder, so rules create subfolders there. To use another drive, change your browser's download location. Your rules follow it. - Firefox only: Firefox doesn't let extensions pick the folder before a download starts, so Download Router asks the site for the file a second time into the right folder, then removes the first copy. If a site doesn't allow a second request (for example single-use links or downloads from a form), the file stays in Downloads and the popup tells you why.
