Overview

Locate and retrieve M3U8 HLS streams (HTTP Live Streaming) using multiple threads to save them on your local disk.

Download Live Streams for Google Chrome™ Save live and on-demand video from the web to your own hard drive. Download Live Streams is a fast, multi-threaded stream downloader that finds M3U8 (HLS) and MPD (MPEG-DASH) manifests on the page you are viewing, rebuilds the fragmented segments into a single playable file, and writes it straight to disk — no external program, no command line, no upload to a third-party server. HOW IT WORKS Streaming sites almost never serve a plain video file. They split the video into hundreds or thousands of small segments described in a text manifest that the player reads. Download Live Streams watches the network traffic of the tab you are on, recognises those manifests and media requests as they happen, and lists everything it finds. Open a page with a stream, click the toolbar icon, press "Start Download Stream", pick the item you want, and the extension fetches every segment, reassembles them in the correct order, and saves the result. Because segments are pulled in parallel, a long recording finishes in a fraction of the time a single-connection download would take. MAIN FEATURES • HLS and DASH support — parses .m3u8 playlists and .mpd manifests, including multi-bitrate master playlists and separate audio, video and subtitle media groups. • Multi-threaded downloading — run up to five simultaneous connections per job to make full use of your bandwidth. • AES-128 decryption — encrypted HLS segments that use standard AES-128 keys are decrypted automatically while downloading. • Quality selector — choose the rendition yourself from a list, or set the extension to always take the highest or the lowest available quality without asking. • Direct-to-disk writing — output is streamed into the destination file as it arrives instead of being held in memory, so multi-gigabyte recordings do not exhaust your RAM. • Choice of container — save as MKV or as a raw TS file, whichever suits your player or editing tool. • Batch mode — select several streams, choose one folder, and the extension downloads them one after another, automatically renaming rather than overwriting anything that already exists there. • Wide format coverage — beyond streams it also picks up direct media links: and more, with optional detection of archives and subtitle files. • Custom filename patterns — build names from keywords such as [meta.name], [title], [hostname] or a value taken from the page URL's query string, so a large batch stays organised. • Error tolerance control — set how many failed requests a thread absorbs before the job is reported as failed, which helps on unstable connections. • Keep Awake — an optional permission that stops your computer from sleeping while a long download is still running. • Auto-close when done — close the job tab automatically once the file is complete. • Improved media detection — an optional deeper detection mode that catches blob-based and dynamically generated sources that ordinary network sniffing misses. • Right-click integration — send any link, audio or video element straight to the downloader, extract every link out of selected text, or clear the detected-media list for the current tab. • Drag, drop and paste — drop HTML links, dropped selections, or a local .m3u8 manifest file onto the job window, or paste links from the clipboard with Ctrl+V / ⌘+V. • List tools — select all or none, remove duplicate entries, or filter the list down to M3U8 entries only, each with a keyboard shortcut. • Correct referrer handling — requests carry the originating page as the referrer, so servers that check it still deliver the segments. • Live progress — per-segment and overall progress bars, plus a toolbar badge showing how many media items were detected on the current tab. • Available in more than forty languages, with a clean interface that follows your system's light or dark theme. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS The extension runs entirely inside your browser. It does not require an account, it does not upload the media it downloads, and it does not send your browsing history anywhere. Broad host access is needed for one reason only: a stream can be hosted on any domain, so the extension has to be able to read the manifest and fetch segments wherever they live. Files are written to the location you pick with the browser's own folder picker. PLEASE NOTE This tool cannot download content protected by DRM systems such as Widevine, PlayReady or FairPlay — those streams stay encrypted and unplayable outside their licensed player. A small number of sites are also excluded at the request of their owners, and links from those sources are shown as unavailable. Please download only material you own or that you are legally permitted to save, and respect the terms of service of the sites you visit and the rights of copyright holders. Install it, open a page with a stream, and click Start Download Stream.
