DotLens: Social Feed Filter
Overview
Filter your X feed by keywords and phrases. Hide distractions, track filtered posts, and see estimated time saved.
Your feed. Your focus. DotLens helps you browse X with more intention. Choose topics you want to see and topics you would rather avoid. DotLens adds a green, red, or gray dot to posts and can cover unwanted posts with an explanation and a reveal button. SET YOUR OWN DIRECTION Add keywords, multiword phrases, or full sentences to your goals and avoid lists. Separate entries with commas or new lines. Matching ignores capitalization and allows extra whitespace. For example, “system design” matches those words together rather than treating them as separate topics. Short terms such as AI, ML, and Go work too. THREE SIMPLE SIGNALS • Green: the post scores as relevant to your goals. • Red: the post scores against your preferences. • Gray: no strong match in either direction. CHOOSE YOUR FOCUS LEVEL • Hide red posts: cover posts classified as unwanted. • Strict focus: cover everything except green posts. • Dots only: keep every post visible and show its classification. YOU KEEP THE FINAL SAY Every hidden post has a “Let me view it” button. Click a dot to cycle through green, red, and gray and provide feedback. Corrections adjust local word weights used for future classification. Matching is rule-based; DotLens does not use an AI service to read your feed. SEE WHAT YOUR FILTER DOES Open the focus dashboard to view: • Posts encountered and posts hidden. • The words and phrases associated with hidden posts. • Posts you chose to reveal. • Your filter rate and daily hidden-post chart. • Today, last 7 days, and last 30 days. • Estimated time saved, using an adjustable seconds-per-post assumption. TIME SAVED IS AN ESTIMATE The default assumption is 15 seconds per post that remains recorded as hidden and was never revealed that day. You can change this assumption in the dashboard. DotLens does not measure how long you would otherwise have read a post. Counts are deduplicated by post ID within each local calendar day; the same post can count again on another day. A post can match multiple terms. LOCAL PROCESSING, CLEAR DATA PRACTICES Feed text is processed in your browser. This version does not send post text, analytics, or learned preferences to a developer server or AI provider. Analytics are stored locally and include post IDs, classifications, matching terms, and reveal state; full post text is not stored. Analytics show a rolling 30-day window, and older daily records are removed when new post activity is recorded. Learned word weights remain local. Goals, avoid lists, and hiding mode use Chrome sync storage and can sync through Chrome when you enable browser syncing. GET STARTED 1. Install DotLens and open its toolbar popup. 2. Select “Open focus dashboard.” 3. Add your goals and avoid terms, choose a hiding mode, and save. 4. Browse X. Return to the dashboard to see your activity. Currently works on the X/Twitter desktop website in Chrome. Classification uses available post text, not image or video understanding. It changes what is displayed in your browser; it does not directly change X’s recommendation algorithm, perform likes or follows, or modify posts for other users. X website changes can affect compatibility. DotLens is an independent extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by X Corp. or Google. Listing screenshots use clearly labeled illustrative analytics, example preferences, and fictional posts.
