DOI to BibTeX
Overview
Paste or select a DOI and get a ready-to-copy BibTeX citation. Works via right-click on selected text too.
Turn any DOI into a ready-to-paste BibTeX citation — right from your browser toolbar. DOI to BibTeX replaces the "copy the DOI, open some website, wait for it to load, copy the result, clean it up" routine with a single click. Copy a DOI, open the popup, and the citation is already there. ──────────────────────────────────────── FEATURES ──────────────────────────────────────── 📋 COPY A DOI, GET BIBTEX INSTANTLY Copy any DOI to your clipboard and click the toolbar icon — the popup detects it automatically and fetches the citation with no extra steps. Works with a bare DOI (10.1000/xyz123), a doi.org link, or "doi:" text pasted from anywhere. ➕ LOOK UP SEVERAL AT ONCE Add as many DOI rows as you need, fetch them all together, and copy the whole list as one BibTeX block — perfect for building a reading list or dropping several references into a .bib file in one paste. 🖱️ RIGHT-CLICK ANY DOI ON THE WEB Select a DOI in the text of any page and right-click for "Copy as BibTeX" to copy its citation immediately, or "Add DOI to input" to queue it in the popup's rows without leaving the page — so you can collect several DOIs from different tabs before fetching and copying them all at once. 🧾 CLEAN, READABLE FORMATTING Registries return BibTeX as a single unreadable line with their own citation key. This extension reflows it into properly indented, one-field-per-line BibTeX and rewrites the key in the conventional AuthorYear form (e.g. Ai2024) — ready to drop straight into a reference manager or .bib file. 📜 RECENT LOOKUPS Every citation you fetch is saved locally, so you can revisit or re-copy a past lookup without searching for the DOI again. 🌐 WORKS ACROSS REGISTRIES Looks up DOIs the same way doi.org itself does — through content negotiation — so it works for DOIs from Crossref, DataCite, and other registration agencies, not just one publisher. ──────────────────────────────────────── WHY INSTALL THIS EXTENSION? ──────────────────────────────────────── Writing a paper, thesis, or literature review usually means gathering citations one DOI at a time from whatever publisher page or search result you're looking at. DOI to BibTeX turns that into a two-second action wherever you are, and lets you batch several references together instead of round-tripping to a citation tool for each one. Perfect for: • Researchers, students, and writers assembling a bibliography • Anyone who has copy-pasted a messy, single-line BibTeX entry and had to reformat it by hand • Reading groups and literature reviews collecting several papers at once • Quickly grabbing a citation while browsing a publisher's site, Google Scholar, or a preprint server ──────────────────────────────────────── PRIVACY ──────────────────────────────────────── This extension has no server of its own, no accounts, and no analytics. Looking up a DOI sends a request straight from your browser to doi.org and, via its redirect, to the DOI's own registration agency (such as Crossref or DataCite) — the same public services doi.org itself uses to resolve DOIs. No other destination ever sees your lookups. Your lookup history and any DOIs waiting in the popup are stored locally in Chrome's built-in storage and are never transmitted, synced, or shared anywhere else.
