Dark mode for Google Docs, Sheets & Slides. Dim the bright page to ease eye strain and strip dark backgrounds from AI pastes.

Take the glare out of your documents. Docs, Sheets and Slides are bright white by design, and after a long day of writing or editing that wall of white is hard on your eyes. Docs Dimmer by URLflows turns the page down to a comfortable level without leaving it or changing a single thing in your document. And when you paste in an answer copied from a dark-mode AI assistant, the dark background it dragged along is dropped on the way in, so your document doesn't end up with a black slab across the middle of it. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install it. It is already working: open a Google Doc, Sheet or Slides deck and the white page is turned down. 2. Click the toolbar icon and drag the Dimming and Warmth sliders. The page changes as you drag, with no reload. 3. Flip on Dark mode to turn the page dark, or pause dimming for a moment. Your levels are kept for when you switch it back on. WHAT IT DOES - Dimming: darkens the white page. It stops short of black, so the page stays readable even at 100%. - Warmth: shifts the page toward a warm amber, like a night light. - Dark mode: inverts the document's colors, so a white page turns dark. Images and drawings in the document are inverted too. - Apply to: choose where it works. Each Google editor has its own switch, and so do shared or embedded calendar pages (not the main Google Calendar app). - Clean pasted backgrounds: removes dark backgrounds from what you paste into Google's editors, Calendar and Keep, while your formatting and text color stay. Text too pale to read once its background is gone is dropped too, so it takes the document's own color instead of landing invisible. On by default, and it keeps working while dimming is paused. BUILT TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY - Click-through. The effect is drawn as overlays you click straight through, so editing, selecting and scrolling work exactly as before. - Live everywhere. A change reaches every open document at once, with no reload. - Follows you. Settings sync with your Chrome profile. SETTINGS The toolbar panel holds every everyday control, plus a button that puts the dimming and paste settings back to their defaults. Its gear opens a settings page with a search box (press / to jump to it) that finds any setting. A first install opens it at Getting started, a short guide to everything it does. - Dimming, Pasting and Sites: every control from the toolbar panel, each one explained. - Appearance: Dark or Light, plus seasonal and holiday themes, for the toolbar panel and the settings page. Customize any theme's colors and keep your version alongside the original. An optional seasonal animation plays behind the toolbar panel. It is off by default and stays off when your computer is set to reduce motion. Your documents are dimmed the same way whichever you pick. - Backup & Restore: export all your settings to one file, theme included, and import it again on this machine or another. Importing replaces your current settings with the ones in the file. - Resets: reset one area at a time, or every setting at once. - About: the version, what the extension can access, a 30-day performance history kept on this computer, and the other URLflows extensions. PRIVACY Nothing you do leaves your browser. There are no accounts or servers, and no analytics or tracking of any kind. The extension runs only on docs.google.com, calendar.google.com and keep.google.com. Pasted content is cleaned inside the page at the moment you paste and is never stored or sent anywhere; the extension cannot see your clipboard at any other time. Your settings are kept in Chrome's own storage and, if you are signed in to Chrome, synced between your devices by Chrome itself. The performance history on the About page (page speed and memory use over 30 days) stays on this computer. The extension contains no code that sends data off your device.
