Overview

Search inside many PDFs at once, scanned English pages too. Your files are read in your browser and never uploaded.

DocFind searches inside the PDFs on your computer. Choose a folder and type a word: the results show the file, where each match was found, and the surrounding text. WHAT IT DOES • Search many PDFs at once. Choose a folder (sub-folders are included), several folders, or PDFs one by one. • Scanned pages too. Turn on OCR and DocFind reads scanned pages in your browser. English printed text only, and every match found this way is labelled OCR. • An index, so searching again does not read every file again. Update index reads new and changed files, and a file that has changed since it was indexed is marked until you update. • Search comments, bookmarks and document details (title, author, subject, keywords), each with its own switch. • Whole words only and Match case switches. Search is exact: running does not find run, and it does not guess at similar words. • Sort by best match, file name or date modified. • Open a result in Chrome's PDF viewer at its page. • Export the results as CSV, text or a PDF report. Each export records what was searched and which files were not fully searched. • Files that could not be read are listed with the reason, so "no matches" never quietly means "never read". • Try the demo — sample documents, no setup. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO • Nothing is uploaded. There is no account, no sign-in and no server, and the extension makes no network requests. • It is not an editor. It does not change, annotate, merge or sign any PDF. • PDFs only. A PDF that needs a password to open is skipped and listed with the reason. • No ads and no tracking. WHERE YOUR DATA STAYS The index (the text of each page; each PDF's comments, bookmarks and document details; each file's name, folder, size and date; and a record of how and when each file was read) is kept in your Chrome profile on this computer. Delete index removes it. Your search words are not kept. Free, with nothing to buy. Privacy policy: https://docfindapp.com/privacy
