Wordspotting: Learn English Vocabulary on YouTube
Overview
See how many words in a YouTube video are new to you, then learn them in context on Wordspotting.
Learn the words you don't know from the videos you actually watch. Open a YouTube video and click the Wordspotting icon, which imports the video. Wordspotting compares the words in the video with your own vocabulary and tells you how many are new to you and how many you're already learning, for example "About 27 new words, 6 you're learning". Choose "See the words" to go through those words on wordspotting.app, see each one in a line from the video, and learn the ones you want with spaced repetition. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install the extension, read what it sends, and agree. 2. Connect your Wordspotting account in one click. 3. On a YouTube video with English captions, click the icon to import it. 4. See your counts, and choose "See the words" to start on them. WHAT THE EXTENSION SENDS You see this on the extension's first screen too, and nothing is sent until you agree there. When you open Wordspotting on a YouTube video, it's added to your library. We receive the video's ID, captions, title, channel and date. Captions are stored and shared with other learners of that video. We receive nothing until you agree, and only for videos you open Wordspotting on. The full policy is at https://wordspotting.app/privacy WHY IT ASKS FOR PERMISSIONS It runs on youtube.com to read the video's captions and details when you open the popup on a video. It reads the current tab's address when you open the popup, and it stores your connection in the browser. It sends data only to wordspotting.app. WHAT YOU NEED A free Wordspotting account. Only English captions work for now. Wordspotting is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google. Screenshot video: Tears of Steel, (CC) Blender Foundation, mango.blender.org.
