Overview

Track concussion symptoms in a short daily check-in and make web pages easier on your senses. Your data stays on your device.

CFX Concussion Companion is a free concussion symptom tracker and screen comfort tool for Chrome, from Cognitive FX, a brain rehabilitation clinic in Provo, Utah. After a concussion, screens can be hard. Bright pages, moving ads and videos that play by themselves can bring on headaches, dizziness or fatigue, and it is hard to remember whether this week was better than last. The extension does two things. A short daily check-in records your post-concussion symptoms so you can see how they change, and comfort mode makes web pages easier on your eyes, ears and attention. Why install it - See whether you are improving from a daily record instead of memory - Find patterns between triggers, such as screen time or poor sleep, and how you feel the next day - Take a clear symptom report to your doctor, physical therapist or concussion clinic - Browse more comfortably when light, motion or sound bother you - No account or sign-up, and your check-ins stay on your computer Daily concussion symptom check-in Rate 12 or 22 common post-concussion symptoms, including headache, dizziness, light sensitivity, noise sensitivity, fatigue, mental fogginess and trouble concentrating, on a 0 to 6 scale that follows the Post-Concussion Symptom Scale (PCSS). Mark anything new or suddenly worse, and log triggers such as screen time, bright light, noise, poor sleep, stress and head movement. The check-in opens in Chrome's side panel, next to the page you are reading. Track your concussion recovery - Symptom score trend for 30 days, 90 days or since you started - A 12-week calendar of good and hard days - Averages for physical, thinking, emotional, and sleep and energy symptoms - Patterns between your triggers and your next check-in - A symptom report to print or save as a PDF for appointments Comfort mode for light, motion and sound sensitivity Turn on only what helps, on the sites you choose or on every site: - Light: dim web pages, dark mode for any website, a warm tint, softer contrast - Motion: calm page animations, pause autoplay videos and animated GIFs, turn off smooth scrolling - Reading: larger text, more line spacing, a readable font, and a clean reading view with shorter lines - Sound: mute sound that starts by itself, lower media volume Quick settings turn on several changes at once: Light-sensitive day, Low stimulation, Reading focus and Headache mode. Show the original page at any time, pause everything for an hour, or press Alt+Shift+O. Comfort suggestions after each check-in The extension may suggest up to three comfort changes that match the symptoms you rated. Nothing turns on until you choose it, and you can stop any suggestion. Reminders and screen breaks - A daily check-in reminder at the time you choose - A badge on the toolbar icon when today's check-in is due - Optional break reminders after 20, 30 or 45 minutes of screen time, to help you pace your day Your data stays on your computer Cognitive FX never receives your check-ins. Syncing between your computers through your Google account is optional and off until you turn it on. Anonymous usage counts are also optional and never include your symptoms or the sites you visit. Export your check-ins as a file or delete them at any time. Who it is for People recovering from a concussion, a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) or post-concussion syndrome (PCS), and anyone who finds bright, busy or noisy web pages hard during recovery. Safety Before your first check-in, the extension shows the danger signs that need emergency care, and they stay in Help. If today's answers suggest you should be checked soon, it tells you and points you to your care team. CFX Concussion Companion is not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it does not replace your care team. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. Pausing moving media is not a seizure-protection tool and may miss some flashing content.
