Back up your Character.AI chats and characters before you lose them. One click saves a character and every chat you've had with it, swipes included, as files on your own computer. WHAT IT SAVES • Your full chat history with any character, every page of it, in order • Swipes: the alternate replies you generated but didn't pick • Character details: name, tagline, greeting, extra greetings, and the definition when the creator made it public (or it's your own bot) • The character's picture, as a PNG character card • Your personas • A readable transcript (.txt) you can open anywhere HOW TO USE IT 1. Install the extension and open any chat on character.ai. 2. The backup panel opens in the bottom-right corner. (Closed it? Click the round "Back up" button.) 3. Click "Back up this character". Do the same for each character you want to keep. 4. Your backup downloads as a .json file. Then grab the PNG character card (with the picture) or a readable .txt copy. WORKS WITH OTHER APPS Each character is saved as a standard Character Card (V2), the format used by most AI chat apps. Download it as a PNG card with the character's picture built in, then drag it into apps that accept character cards. Chats are saved in a simple, documented JSON format. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Runs entirely in your browser. Your chats never touch our servers; we don't have any. • No login, password, or token needed. It uses the session you're already signed in with. • No tracking, no analytics, no ads. GOOD TO KNOW • Character.AI only shares a character's definition with its creator, or when the creator made it public. If it's hidden, the backup still saves everything else. • Very large histories take a minute or two. Keep the tab open until the download starts. • Character.AI's official data export can take weeks.
