Overview

Strip away ads and clutter. Read articles in a clean, focused view with themes, text-to-speech, and a reading library.

Distill turns any cluttered web article into a calm, distraction-free reading view. Click the icon — or press Ctrl+Shift+D — and the page is replaced by a clean reader with just the words, the images that matter, and the controls you actually want. WHAT'S IN THE BOX • Powerful extraction Powered by Mozilla Readability — the same engine behind Firefox Reader View. Headings, lists, code blocks, blockquotes, and figures all come through with their structure intact. Works on news sites, blogs, Substack, Medium, Wikipedia, and most article-shaped pages. • Three thoughtful themes Light, sepia, and a refined dark mode (no harsh pure black). Cycle with one keypress. • Typography that respects your eyes Three font families (sans, serif, dyslexia-friendly), four sizes, three column widths, three line heights. Dial it in once and it sticks. • Read aloud, properly Sentence-level highlighting follows along as it speaks. Pick any system voice. Speed slider 0.5×–2×. • Reading library Bookmark articles to a local library. Read them back from the popup, even offline. Up to 100 articles, capped automatically — no clutter. • Reading position memory Comes back to right where you left off, per article. • Markdown export Copy or download the cleaned article as Markdown or plain text. Perfect for note-taking apps. • Print-ready Hit P (or the print icon) and you get a clean, paper-friendly page. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS Ctrl/⌘+Shift+D — open or close the reader on any page Esc — close · T — cycle theme · S — read aloud · B — save · , — settings · E — export · P — print · ←/→ — font size · ? — full shortcut list PRIVACY-FIRST Distill works entirely on your device. It doesn't send page content anywhere, doesn't track you, and doesn't talk to any servers. The only thing stored is your settings and your saved articles, in your browser's local storage. PERMISSIONS • active Tab — to read the current page so it can be distilled • storage — to save your settings, library, and reading positions • scripting — to inject the reader into the active page when you trigger it No host permissions. Distill only acts on the tab you're on, when you ask. --- Built with care. If you hit a site where extraction misbehaves, a feature request, or a bug — open an issue.
