Direct Studio Recorder is a lightweight, privacy-focused Chrome extension that lets you record your current browser tab along with microphone audio and cursor tracking. It is designed for quick tutorial videos, demos, and walkthroughs, without the need for extra software or online uploads. The screen recording is stored locally on your computer, giving you full control over your recordings. What it does The extension records the visual content of your active browser tab and, if enabled, your microphone input. Coupled with the editor at directstudio.io Cursor movements and clicks are highlighted can be highlighted for professional look. Once you stop recording, the video is automatically saved to your Downloads folder inside a “Direct Studio” subfolder. You can play, edit, or share the recording using directstudio.io. Microphone audio is mixed directly into the file. Files remain local and are never uploaded automatically. How it works When you click the Direct Studio Recorder icon, choose whether to include microphone audio and then click Start Recording. After a three-second countdown, the extension begins capturing everything visible in the active tab. When finished, click the icon again and choose Stop Recording. The file will appear in your Downloads/Direct Studio/ folder, named with the date and time of creation. Privacy and data handling Direct Studio Recorder is built with a privacy-first design. All recordings stay on your computer. The extension does not collect personal data, browsing history, or analytics of any kind. It requires no login or account. Users are reminded not to record sensitive information such as passwords or payment details, since recordings are stored locally. The extension requests only the minimum permissions needed to record tab content, microphone audio, and to save the file to your Downloads folder. The cursor position and type data is captured and stored in the cloud for use in the directstudio.io editor. Troubleshooting If the timer shows 00:00:00, reopen the popup; the state will sync automatically. A brief delay before recording starts is normal due to the countdown. Some pages cannot be recorded, such as chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, and other extension pages. If microphone audio is missing, make sure Chrome and your operating system both allow microphone access, and that no other app is using it. The extension requires Chrome version 109 or later. Best practices Close unnecessary tabs to improve performance. Keep your browser window size consistent. Use a good microphone for better audio clarity. Speak clearly and wait for the countdown to finish. Use keyboard shortcuts for smoother control, and pause if you need to take a break or prepare your next action.
