Overview

Know exactly how much Claude you have left: 5-hour and weekly usage, reset countdowns, limit alerts, and ways to stretch it.

You hit your Claude limit and you didn't see it coming. Claude's web app doesn't tell you how much of your 5-hour session or your weekly allowance you've already spent — so the wall arrives mid-thought, with no warning. Diet Claude puts that number on your screen, warns you before you run out, and gives you practical ways to make what's left go further. It reads the usage figures Claude already reports for your own account, in your own browser. There is no account to create, no API key, and nothing to configure. WHAT IT DOES See where you stand • Live usage meter — how much of your 5-hour session and your weekly window you've used, read straight from Claude's own numbers. Shown as a soda can that drains as you chat, or as a detailed panel if you prefer numbers to metaphors. • Reset countdown — exactly how long until your session refills. • Limit alerts — a desktop warning when you cross 70%, and again at 90%, of a window. • Session-reset ping — "you can use Claude again" the moment your 5-hour session resets, even with no Claude tab open. • One-hour heads-up — a nudge about an hour before the reset while you still have usage left, so you can make the last stretch count. • Each kind of alert has its own on/off switch: limit alerts, the reset ping, and the one-hour heads-up. Turn off the ones you don't want. Spend less of what you have • Context gauge — a "Tokens used" readout on the message box showing how big the current chat has grown. Long chats reply slower and cost more of your limit per message. • Cache warmth timer — replying within about five minutes lets Claude reuse the chat cheaply; after that it re-reads everything. The timer shows you the window. • New-chat advisor — a nudge when a conversation has got heavy enough that starting fresh is the cheaper move. • Fork & Compress — summarize the current chat and continue in a brand-new one: keeps the gist, drops the heavy history. The summary is written by your own Claude session, so a fork spends two messages of your allowance: one to write the summary, which appears as a normal turn in the chat you forked, and one to open the new chat with it. Worth it once a chat has grown expensive; not worth it on a short one. • Organize — groups your chats into categories using their titles, leaves your Projects exactly as they are, and flags throwaway chats you might want to clear out. Up to 1,000 chats at a time. Deleting is opt-in, one chat at a time, and asks you to confirm first. Deletion is permanent. • Search inside chats — the filter in the Organize panel matches words inside your messages, not just titles, using an index built and kept on your own device. Waste fewer messages • Improve prompt — a button on the message box that rewrites your draft into a clearer, more specific prompt before you spend a message on it. Undo puts your original text straight back. • Templates and format presets — save prompts you reuse, and drop in one-click formats like table, bullets, or JSON. (Off by default; switch it on in the extension menu.) When you're out of Claude for now • Continue in another AI — one click summarizes the Claude chat you have open and opens ChatGPT, Gemini, or Grok with that summary already typed into its message box. It is never sent for you; you read it and decide. Writing the summary uses your own Claude session, so it spends one message and adds a turn to the chat you summarized. Make it yours • Drag the meter to the side and height that suit you — it snaps to the nearer edge and stays there. • Follows Claude's own light and dark theme, so it matches whatever you have set in Claude. • Can sounds — a fizz when your session refills, a crack on your first message of a fresh session. Mutable. • A first-run walkthrough (about 20 seconds) you can replay any time. YOUR PRIVACY Stays on your device, always: your usage readings, settings, saved templates, widget position, the Organize result, the "search inside chats" index, and your dismissed nudges. None of it is uploaded, and none of it syncs to your Google account. Two features send your text to our server — and only at the moment you click them: • Organize sends your chat titles and their conversation IDs. It never sends the messages inside them, and it skips chats filed under a Project. • Improve prompt sends the draft text currently in your message box. Text only — attachments are never read. Both go to our server, which passes them to our AI provider to do the grouping or the rewrite, returns the result, and does not store your titles or your prompts. Never sent to us: your conversations, your search index, or your handoff summaries. About the on-device search index: so the Organize filter is ready when you need it, Diet Claude keeps that index current in the background — it records the text of the chat you have open as you browse, and tops the index up when you open the Organize panel. All of it is written to your browser's own extension storage, and none of it is ever transmitted anywhere. Switch "Search inside chats" off in the extension menu and no index is kept. Diet Claude never reads or stores your Claude password or session token. Its requests to claude.ai ride on the login your browser already has, exactly as they do when you use claude.ai normally. About "Continue in another AI": the summary is written by your own Claude session, held for up to a minute on your device, typed into the other tool's message box, and copied to your clipboard as a manual fallback (that copy replaces whatever you had on your clipboard). It is never auto-sent and never reaches us. Once you press send there, it is covered by that provider's own privacy policy. Why the install prompt mentions chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, gemini.google.com and grok.com: solely so Diet Claude can type your summary into the box on the site you chose. On an ordinary visit to any of those sites it checks for a pending summary, finds none, and stops — it does not read the page, your conversations, or anything else there. When a handoff does happen, it sends one anonymous event recording only whether the box was filled successfully. Anonymous diagnostics: Diet Claude sends content-free feature-usage events (which features get used, simple counts, and error codes) and error reports, so we can spot breakage quickly when claude.ai changes. Most follow a click, but two do not: one "widget loaded" event when the meter appears on a claude.ai page, and one event noting that a usage alert fired and at which threshold. Error reports carry the place that failed and the error text; they are built to leave out chat content, titles and prompt text, though an error message handed back by a server is passed along as written. Both are on by default and both switch off in one click in the extension menu, under Privacy. Diet Claude works on the Claude web app only — it does not touch the Claude mobile or desktop apps, and it does not need an API key or a subscription to us. Found something broken, or want a feature?
