Overview

AI analytics assistant for DHIS2. Runs locally on Ollama by default, or connects to any OpenAI-compatible AI endpoint.

DHIS2 AI Assistant is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that adds an AI-powered side panel to any DHIS2 instance. Instead of clicking through menus or writing API calls by hand, you describe what you want in plain English and the assistant queries the DHIS2 API on your behalf, builds analytics, audits your program configuration, and authors metadata for you. How it works: The assistant operates entirely through your existing DHIS2 login. It proxies API calls through the tab you're already signed into, so no usernames or passwords are ever stored — and the moment you sign out of DHIS2, the assistant loses access. It also understands where you are: it reads the active DHIS2 tab to detect the current program, organisation unit, stage, tracked entity, dataset, visualization, or map, and tailors itself to the tools and rules relevant to that page on every request. Behind the scenes it runs as an agent. The model selects the right tools, calls the DHIS2 API, reads the JSON responses, and keeps going until your request is satisfied, rather than asking you to drive each step manually. What you can do with it: You can ask it to count enrollments, events, and tracked entities, and to produce aggregations, trends, breakdowns, and line listings. It can explain the full structure of a program — stages, data elements, rules, indicators, and attributes — and surface recent changes. It can load and explain a Data Visualizer chart or a Maps layer, and render charts directly in the chat. For configuration work, it authors metadata atomically: programs, stages, data elements, option sets, attributes, program rules, program indicators, datasets, sections, and category combinations are bundled into single requests so changes either fully succeed or fully roll back. It also manages and audits program rules and indicators, can repair common mistakes in bulk, and validates expressions and rule conditions before saving so you don't waste a round-trip on a server rejection. An automatic backup is taken before every destructive operation, with restore available and a 30-day retention window. Every answer streams in real time with per-step progress, and any response can be exported as an HTML report, a Word document, a CSV, or structured JSON. Model providers The extension works with any OpenAI-compatible provider and custom self-hosted endpoints. By default it points at a local Ollama model running on your own machine, so it works with no API key and keeps your data on-device unless you choose to configure a remote provider. An optional web-search tool and optional vision support are also available. Privacy The extension never stores DHIS2 credentials and authenticates only through your active browser session. Conversation state, settings, and provider configuration are stored locally. When you use a remote AI provider, your messages and the DHIS2 data you ask it to work with are sent to that provider; when you stay on the default local model, nothing leaves your device. Open source under the MIT license. Built for the DHIS2 community.
