Glance Translate

Translate selected text where you read it, with Chrome's on-device translator or keyless services. Add an AI key to explain it.

Select text on a web page and read it in your language, right where it is. It works right after install, with no account and no key. The extension tries Chrome's built-in on-device translator first. When it answers, the text stays on your device. When it cannot answer, Microsoft and Google translation services answer instead. Features - Three ways to start: click the Trigger Icon next to your Selection, see the result as soon as you select, or use only the shortcut and the right-click menu. - Shortcut: Alt+Shift+G. You can change it. - "Translate selection" in the right-click menu works in every mode. - It also works inside frames on the page. - The Translation Card has Copy and Listen. You can change the Target Language there, or pick another service from your list. - In the Toolbar Popup, you can type or paste text. You can also turn off the Trigger Icon and instant results on one site or on all sites. - Offline Packs: download a language pair once from the options page, about 80 MB each. Nothing downloads until you click. - If the text is already in your language, you get it in a Second Language that you choose. - Optional: add your own OpenRouter key to get Explain in the card. For 1 to 3 words, it says what they mean in their sentence, with other ways to say them and an example. For longer text, it points out what may not carry over, such as idioms, slang or tone. It uses Free Models by default. - It follows your system's light or dark theme. The card works from the keyboard and with screen readers. Privacy - No server of its own, no telemetry, no analytics. - Only the text that you select or type leaves the browser. It goes only to the online services that the extension asks. - When you click Explain, OpenRouter also gets the result and, for a short Selection, the sentence around it. - The page address and title are never sent. - Listen prefers a voice on your device. If there is none, the browser picks one, possibly an online voice. - Your OpenRouter key stays in this browser. Only OpenRouter receives it. - Results are kept on your device until the browser closes. Known limits - Arc may ignore extension keyboard shortcuts. In Arc, use the Trigger Icon or the right-click menu. - Chrome's on-device translator needs an Offline Pack for the language pair. Some browsers do not have the on-device translator or its language detection. In both cases, an online service answers. - In Chrome's PDF viewer and on browser pages, the right-click menu opens the Toolbar Popup with what you selected. - Text in input fields and editors is not supported. - There is no full-page translation. - A Selection can have up to 5,000 characters. - The interface is in English.
