Overview
Capture text from a webpage and add it as a translated chapter in your Crossleaf book.
Crossleaf Capture takes the chapter you are reading on a web page and puts it in one of your Crossleaf books, translated. HOW IT WORKS Open the chapter, click the Crossleaf leaf in your toolbar, and press "Auto-detect text". It finds the story on the page and reads it. If it grabs the wrong part — a sidebar, a comment thread — press "Pick the text block" and click the story itself. You see the text before anything happens to it, with a character count, and you can correct it in place. Choose the book, give the chapter a title (the next number is suggested for you), set the source and target language, and press "Translate and add". A moment later the chapter is in your library, original and translation both, exactly like a chapter you imported yourself. "Add without translating" stores the text and does nothing else. READING A SERIAL Auto-add mode is for getting through a long run of chapters. Set it up once — book, languages, translate or not — and Chrome asks your permission for that one site. After that, on each chapter page you tap anywhere and the chapter is added; click Next on the site and tap again. A badge on the icon counts them, and "Disarm" stops it everywhere, at once. WHAT YOU NEED A Crossleaf account and a book in it. The extension is free. Crossleaf itself starts with ten free chapters, no card needed, and then a membership that fits how much you read. Captured chapters cost nothing extra. HOW IT READS THE PAGE It reads the page's own text, the same text you could select with your mouse, so it is instant and exact — there is no image recognition and nothing to guess. The limit is the opposite one: a site that deliberately protects its text (selection disabled, letters swapped by a custom font, the chapter baked into pictures) comes back empty, and the extension says so rather than adding nonsense. If Chrome is translating the page for you, it warns you too, because what is on the page then is a translation, not the original. PRIVACY, IN ONE LINE The only site Crossleaf Capture talks to is crossleaf.app: the text you choose to capture goes there to become your chapter, and nothing else is collected, sold or shared. The address of the page you captured from is never sent.
