Overview
User initiated, offline IPS notation for English web pages.
Lingose IPSM Notation adds pronunciation marks directly to English words on the web page you are reading. IPS integrates pronunciation with spelling as part of the Lingose IPSM Approach. For example, with the frequency threshold set to 0: Hello, world! → He̊llō, wo̊rld! Click the extension icon, choose your frequency threshold, and click “Apply to current page”. The algorithm and dictionary run locally inside your browser, including offline. No Python installation or cloud conversion service is required. Features: - Apply IPS notation to eligible English page text. - Leave frequent words unchanged with the saved “Skip top frequent words” setting; the default is 1000. - Apply again to recompute from retained original text without stacking annotations. - Restore the current page or disable notation. Website edits are preserved where the extension no longer owns the text. - Process new or changed text in an already activated document. - Prioritize the current reading area, follow scrolling, and complete remaining text in idle batches after about one second without scrolling. Background tabs can continue when the browser permits. Opening a page or popup, enabling the feature, or saving a setting does not apply notation. Refreshing or navigating to a new document requires another Apply. The frequency setting uses the bundled list's original NUMBER threshold, including associated word forms. Unresolved words appear in square brackets. Input controls, editable regions, hidden text, scripts, styles and code are skipped. The extension processes the top-level document; iframes, Shadow DOM and custom elements are excluded. Browser pages, the Chrome Web Store, local files and the built-in PDF viewer are unsupported. Very large or rapidly changing pages may be slow. Continuous text that exceeds the processing budget remains unchanged; browser throttling or suspension can delay background completion. “Annotation active” means processing is enabled; “Annotation complete” means the current supported content has finished. Page text is processed locally and is not uploaded or persisted. Opening the popup checks the current tab URL locally for page support and targeting; the URL is not uploaded or saved. Page text may contain personal information and follows the same local processing path. Only settings are saved. There are no analytics, advertising trackers or remote executable code.
