Detoxifyr - Your AI-Powered Text Detoxifier

Automatically cleanse the web of toxic language using AI-powered text detoxification.

DISCLAIMER: This extension is created for my science fair project, and is a proof-of-concept. Do not install if you expect a polished version, or did not stumble across this from science fair. If you did find this from my science fair project, feel free to test it and try it out. Detoxifyr helps your child/yourself browse with ease by rewriting toxic text on the web. It works on most websites you come across that have the potential to be spreading toxicity. ➤ How it works The extension automatically scans the text for every webpage you’re visiting, and runs it through a Classification AI. This AI determines if the text on the webpage is toxic and needs rewriting. If so, the toxic text is sent to the Detoxifier AI to try to lighten the tone or content of the toxic message. If this works, the new text is replaced on the screen. If not, the original text gets blocked. ➤ What’s Different from Other Parental Controls? Detoxifyr is built to rewrite instead of block. This way, the users with this extension don’t have to face the perception of censorship that comes with other parental controls. Only if text is really untoxifiable, does the extension block it. ➤ Do I get to see the original text? You can still see the original text via the popup, but it wouldn’t show unless you explicitly click the “show original” button. There are no restrictions, so kids could still click it. However, most of the time using this extension, you don’t even realize things are being rewritten. There are also options to revert the text back onto the webpage. ➤ Does it get in the way of reading text? It ideally shouldn't but sometimes misclassifies some text. As stated above, you can still see the original, or you have the option to completely shutdown/pause the extension. This is still a proof-of-concept, so don’t expect it to be perfect. ➤ You don’t store the text I see, right? Privacy is one of my biggest concerns about this project. But I can guarantee that I have no access to see what you browse on the internet. This does have to connect to another website that hosts my AIs, but doesn’t store what gets sent in or out.
