Deskside Dial
Overview
A small remote for music and video playing in another tab. Play, pause, skip, seek, and set volume without switching tabs.
Deskside Dial is a small remote for music or video playing in another tab. While a playlist runs on YouTube or YouTube Music in the background, you can pause, play, skip and adjust it without leaving the page you're working on. What it does - Play and pause, next and previous, back and forward 10 seconds. - A seek bar with elapsed and total time; click or drag to jump. - Volume slider and mute. - Shows the title, channel or artist, and thumbnail of what's playing. - Pop out: open the same controls in a small window to keep beside your work. - Show tab: jump straight to the tab being controlled. - Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+Shift+P play/pause, Alt+Shift+Right next, Alt+Shift+Left previous. Change them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. While a skippable video ad is showing, Next (the button and the shortcut) skips the ad instead of moving to the next item. - Follows your system's light or dark theme. Skip ad When YouTube shows its own Skip button on a video ad, Deskside Dial shows a Skip ad button that ends the ad, as YouTube's Skip button would, so you don't have to switch tabs. It only appears while YouTube allows that ad to be skipped. It can't skip or shorten ads YouTube doesn't let you skip, it never skips anything on its own, and it doesn't block or hide ads. Image ads (a still picture with a countdown) can't be skipped from Deskside Dial; use YouTube's Skip button or wait for the timer. Which tab it controls A tab that's playing sound, otherwise the tab you controlled last, otherwise the YouTube tab you used most recently. Works on YouTube (www.youtube.com) and YouTube Music (music.youtube.com) on desktop. It does nothing on any other website. Privacy Deskside Dial reads what's playing only to show it in the remote, and never sends your data to me or anyone else. No ads, no analytics, no accounts. The only thing it loads from the internet is the thumbnail of what's playing, from YouTube's or Google's image servers. It remembers the last tab you controlled only until you close the browser. Free and provided as is, with no promise of support, fixes or new features. Deskside Dial is an independent project. It is not made by, endorsed by, or affiliated with YouTube or Google, and those names belong to their owners.
