Overview

Automatically appends site-specific default tags to search forms before submission.

šŸŽÆ Tired of typing the same tags or filters into the same search box every time? "Default Search Tags" is a Chrome extension that automatically appends a tag or search condition you've registered for a site to your search query, right before you submit it. Set it up once, and from then on you just type your query and search as usual. šŸ” How to use šŸ”¹ Click into a search box, and a tag-management panel automatically pops up šŸ”¹ Type a tag into the panel's input to register it for that site on the spot — no need to open the options page šŸ”¹ Every registered tag can be toggled on/off or deleted with the trash icon — all directly from the panel, without leaving the page šŸ”¹ Tags you've toggled on are appended automatically every time you submit a search from that field afterward šŸ”¹ A tag that's toggled off can still be clicked by name to insert it into the search field — handy for tags whose value changes every time, like since:2024-01-01 style date filters (e.g. X/Twitter's since:/until:): instead of auto-appending the same fixed value on every search, you insert it with a click and then edit the value for that particular search šŸ”¹ If a search field isn't picked up correctly by the built-in detection, you can explicitly register it via the right-click menu's "Register this field as the search field" šŸ”¹ Conversely, if a field gets mistakenly detected as a search field, you can exclude it with the panel's "Don't treat this field as a search field" button šŸ”¹ Want to review or manage tags across all your sites at once? The extension's options page gives you a full list view too (it also lets you view and remove any fields you've registered or excluded via right-click) 🌟 Key features šŸ”¹ A tag-management panel appears the moment you focus a search box — no page navigation needed šŸ”¹ Add, toggle, and delete tags entirely from the panel šŸ”¹ For tags whose value changes each time (like since:/until: date filters), insert them with a click while off and edit the value on the spot šŸ”¹ Drag the panel to reposition it; your placement is remembered per site šŸ”¹ Press Escape to close just the panel, while your search field keeps focus and whatever you've typed šŸ”¹ Register a default tag or search condition per domain šŸ”¹ Subdomains are automatically included šŸ”¹ Works with regular form submission, the Enter key, and search button clicks šŸ”¹ Also works on sites with custom JS-driven search boxes that don't use a <form> šŸ”¹ Explicitly register or exclude a search field via right-click, fixing detection mistakes on the spot šŸ”¹ Registered and excluded fields can be reviewed and removed from the options page šŸ”¹ Set different tags or conditions for as many sites as you like šŸ”„ Who it's for šŸŽÆ Anyone who types the same filter condition into a search site over and over šŸŽÆ Anyone who keeps forgetting to add a filter condition when searching šŸŽÆ Anyone who uses multiple search sites, each needing different conditions āœ… Privacy šŸ”¹ No communication with any external server, ever šŸ”¹ All settings are stored locally in the browser (Chrome's sync storage) šŸ”¹ Password and email input fields are never touched ā“ FAQ Q. Will it work on sites I haven't registered? A. It works on any site once you register its domain, though on some sites it may not be able to detect the search field depending on how the site is implemented. Q. Will it overwrite the search terms I already typed? A. No. It only appends the registered text to the end of what you typed — your original query is always preserved. Q. Is any data sent anywhere? A. No. All processing happens entirely within your browser.
