Tab Group Janitor

Automatically closes empty tab groups after a delay you choose — all groups, or only ones whose name matches.

Tab Group Janitor closes tab groups that have nothing left in them, after a delay you choose. A group is empty when every tab in it is a new-tab page or about:blank. Groups that still contain a real page, a pinned tab, or a tab playing audio are left alone. If a group holds every tab in its window, the group is dissolved instead of closed, so the window stays open. You can: - Turn automatic cleanup on or off, and run a sweep yourself at any time - Choose how long a group must sit empty first, from no wait up to one hour - Clean every group, or only groups whose names match patterns you write - Use dry run to log what would be closed without closing anything The popup shows how many groups are waiting. Settings lists every open group and what will happen to it. Before it reads anything, the extension asks you to agree. It then reads each open tab's address to tell a blank tab from a real page. Addresses are used only for that check. They are not saved and not sent anywhere. Settings and a short on-device log of closed groups stay on your computer. If you use Chrome Sync, settings sync with your Google account. There is no account to create and no analytics. Saved groups in the bookmarks bar are not visible to extensions, so those have to be deleted from the bookmarks bar.
