Overview
Read chats and view stories privately: hide seen receipts, typing indicators, story views and online status. Free and local.
Read chats and watch 24-hour posts on your own schedule. Day21 Unseen is a free extension that holds back the signals that tell people you've been there, on three major social and messaging sites, including the chats built into them. What it holds back • Read receipts: open a chat without sending "Seen" (all three sites) • Typing indicator: write a reply without the other side seeing the typing dots (all three sites) • Views on 24-hour posts: watch without showing up in the list of viewers (two sites) • Online status: browse without showing as active right now (two sites) How it works • Every supported site has its own page of switches. Changes apply right away on pages that are already open, with no reload. • One Protection switch in the toolbar popup pauses every site at once. • The popup shows whether protection is active on the page you're on. Private by design • Site access is on demand. The extension installs with no site access and asks for a site only when you enable it. You can turn a site off at any time. • No account, no analytics, no tracking. Your settings are stored in your browser, and nothing reaches our servers. • It doesn't read, store or send your messages, contacts or posts. Good to know • On two of the sites, replying can still mark a chat as read: sending a message can tell the other person you've read it. • On the third site, replying doesn't mark the chat as read. Messages you read with the switch on stay unread for the other person until you open a newer message with the switch off. • On one site, the extension removes the page's Content-Security-Policy headers, which would otherwise block part of how it works. That site loses this layer of protection while it is enabled; turning the site off restores it. • On another site, the extension looks only at the type of each outgoing chat event and holds back the read and typing events. Message text there is end-to-end encrypted, and the extension never reads it. • Another extension that takes over the same parts of a page can stop this one from working there. The popup tells you when that happens. Free. An independent browser extension, not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any social platform.
