The fruit is oval, growing in dense clusters on branches hanging from the top of the tree. The fruit skin is bright dark red, thick flesh. The leaves are long, pointed, thorny palm leaves, typical of trees in the Arecaceae family. Bright, sunny background - often found in dry tropical or semi-desert climates such as the Middle East, North Africa. Outstanding features: When ripe, it turns dark brown, very sweet, used as jam, snack or vegetarian instead of sugar. A fruit rich in energy, vitamins and fiber, often used during the Muslim month of Ramadan. The tree can live up to hundreds of years, very adapted to hot, dry climates.
