Journalling apps ask you to make an account, then sync your most private writing to someone else's server. This one does not have a server. Daily Journal lives in your browser toolbar. Click the icon, write, save. That is the whole loop. WHAT IT DOES - One entry per day. Saving replaces the entry for today, so you can come back and keep adding to it during the day. - Pick a mood for the day from five options: great, good, okay, bad, awful. - Add tags. Search later by tag or by any word in the text. - Write in markdown. Headings, bold, italic, inline code, blockquotes, and bullet lists are supported, with a Preview toggle to see it rendered. - A daily writing prompt appears above the editor, rotating through fifteen questions. - A streak counter shows how many days in a row you have written. Writing today keeps it alive; the count is calculated from your entries, so you can see it honestly. - A 14-day mood chart plots your moods as a line so you can see the shape of the last two weeks. - Filter past entries by mood, or search their text and tags with matches highlighted. - Export everything to a JSON file whenever you want. - At 8pm you get a reminder — but only if you have not written that day. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO - Past entries can be read and deleted, but not edited. Today's entry is the one you can change. - There is no import. Export is a one-way backup, not a sync mechanism. - There is no sync between computers. Entries on one machine stay on that machine. - Deleting an entry is immediate and permanent. PRIVACY This is the point of the extension, so it is worth being exact about it. Daily Journal requests no access to any website. It has no content script, it cannot read the pages you visit, and it contains no network code at all — no analytics, no crash reporting, no server, no account. Your entries, moods, tags, and streak are stored in chrome.storage.local on your own computer. Nobody, including the developer, can read them. The trade-off is that there is no backup: if you uninstall the extension or reset your Chrome profile, the entries are gone. Use the export button and keep the JSON file somewhere safe.
