Overview

Timer and website blocker to help you focus

Yet another vegetable-themed timer + website blocker to help you focus, maybe. You set a timer, and the extension blocks your chosen websites, while you're trying to finally get some work done. Think of it as the browser equivalent of hiding your phone in another room while you're working. Not foolproof, of course: you can always get distracted by like a bird outside or a layer of dust on the screen... It's a speed bump for your reflexes, not a cage. So features: • Set a length and the timer counts down. Set it to 0 and it counts up until you stop it. • Covers blocked tabs with an overlay instead of redirecting them, so pages keep their state. When the session ends, you'll find them exactly as you left them. • Fullscreen and picture-in-picture get closed too, so a video can't play over the top of the overlay. Sound carries on though, and keyboard events go through. • Keyboard support: type a number or use the arrow keys to set the session length, then press Enter to start the timer. (You can also assign a shortcut under chrome://extensions -> Keyboard shortcuts) • Catches tabs you already had open, ones you open later, and ones that run into a blocked site mid-session. • Add the current tab's domain to the blocklist in one click, even during a session. • Subdomains get blocked automatically, e.g. blocking reddit.com also blocks old.reddit.com. You can also block a specific path, e.g. reddit.com/r/quick_dopamine. • A 10-second break button in case you need to pause a video or leave a call. • Shows the remaining time on the toolbar icon. • No sign-in, no analytics, no network requests, no remote URLs anywhere in the code. Nothing leaves your browser. Q: Why does this extension need access to all URLs? A: That's necessary to be able to draw an overlay over a blocked page. In practice the extension only injects anything into the sites on your blocklist, only when you start a session, and cleans after itself at the end of it. Q: How can I be sure this extension isn't going to spy on me? A: The extension's code is not obfuscated, you can read it yourself in devtools. It's also on GitHub (https://github.com/campugnatus/cucumbero). You also have my word. Q: Was it vibe-coded? A: Yes it was. Mostly. Crazy thing! I've read through the code though, and so can you. From one procrastinator to another, I find that when your dopamine withdrawal is bad enough already, no timer can help you (the bird thing). So on any given day, it's really helpful to start working BEFORE you've hooked yourself on the short-term reward cycle, which is to say, first thing in the morning. And that's tricky, refusing that first hit of the day, but what are you gonna do. Unfortunately, you can't just offload your motivation onto a Chrome extension. The intent to start working is essential. Once you have that, an extension like this can save you from waking up an hour into reddit all of a sudden.
