The cricket has the following identifying characteristics: Elongated body, shiny black on the head and chest, highlighted by yellow-brown on the wings and legs. Long slender antennae extending forward, typical of crickets. Hard wings folded neatly on the back, often used to emit a characteristic chirp at night. Hard hind legs developed, with small spines, adapted for long jumps and digging.
