Overview
Catch recent browser audio, record longer sessions, and organize your captures into local crates.
CrateBack is a browser audio capture and sample-digging tool for beatmakers, music producers, and sample diggers. Start a digging session, keep listening normally, and when you hear something worth keeping, use Skip Back to catch the last 15, 30, or 45 seconds of audio that already played — without rewinding and starting a conventional recording. You can also record longer passages for up to 30 minutes, preview your captures, organize them in Crates, and export standard WAV files for use in your DAW. Dig. Catch. Create. ⭐ Key Features: - Skip Back Capture: Start Digging and catch the last 15, 30, or 45 seconds of audio you just heard. - Continuous Digging: Keep the Skip Back session running and make multiple catches without restarting the session. - Regular Recording: Record longer browser-audio passages for up to 30 minutes. - Local Crates Library: Keep your saved captures organized in a dedicated local library. - Audio Preview: Play captured audio, seek through the waveform, and review it before exporting. - WAV Export: Download individual captures as standard WAV files. - DAW Workflow: Drag a capture toward a compatible DAW or file destination when supported by Chrome and the destination application. WAV download is always available as the reliable fallback. - Source Information: Keep the original page title, URL, and available playback-position information connected to each capture. - Rename Captures: Give saved audio useful names without changing the original source information. - Search & Sort: Search saved captures and sort them by newest or oldest. - Capture Filters: Quickly view all captures, Skip Back catches, or regular recordings. - Local Storage: Captured audio and library information stay in the browser rather than being uploaded to a CrateBack cloud library. Skip Back — Catch What You Just Heard The main CrateBack workflow is built around the moment when you hear something interesting after it has already played. Instead of stopping, rewinding, starting a recorder, and playing the section again: 1. Start Digging. 2. Listen normally. 3. Hear something useful. 4. Press Catch Last. 5. Preview and save the capture. CrateBack keeps only a bounded rolling audio buffer while a user-started digging session is active. It is not an always-on background recorder. Regular Recording For longer passages, CrateBack also includes conventional recording. Start recording from the popup, continue listening, and stop when you have what you need. Regular recordings can run for up to 30 minutes and are saved as WAV files in your local Crates library. Your Local Sample Library Crates keeps your captures and their source information together in one place. You can: - Preview captures - Rename them - Search your library - Sort by date - Filter Skip Back catches and regular recordings - View capture duration and storage size - Return to the original source URL - Export individual WAV files - Delete captures you no longer need CrateBack Pro CrateBack Free includes the core capture workflow, local library, preview, search, sorting, filtering, and individual WAV export. CrateBack Pro adds tools for organizing and analyzing a growing sample collection: - Tags and tag filtering - BPM and musical key detection - Manual BPM and key correction - Filter by BPM and key - Bulk WAV export as ZIP - Future CrateBack Pro updates included BPM and key analysis runs locally and only when you choose to analyze a capture. Automatic musical analysis is an estimate and can be corrected manually when needed. Local-First by Design CrateBack does not require an account for its Free capture and library features. Captured WAV audio, source information, tags, and musical analysis stay locally in Chrome. CrateBack Pro uses a license key for activation and validation. Licensing requests are handled separately from your audio library — captured audio is not uploaded to the licensing service. Built for Audio Capture, Not Media Downloading CrateBack uses Chrome's supported tab-audio capture APIs during sessions explicitly started by the user. It does not extract source media files from websites, bypass DRM, or provide platform-specific media-downloader functionality. Users remain responsible for respecting copyright, platform terms, and any rights or permissions required for material they capture or use.
