Craig
Overview
Local-first, explainable scam indicators for Craigslist listings.
Craig helps you spot warning signs in Craigslist rental listings before you send money or personal details. Open a listing and click the Craig icon. Craig checks the post and explains every result in plain language: what it found, where it found it, and why it matters. What Craig looks for • Payment requests with no recourse, like wire transfers or gift cards • Deposits or fees requested before you've seen the place • Owners who claim to be away or unable to meet • Pressure to act fast, and contact details that are hidden or disguised • Unusual hold, reservation, or application fees • Rent far below the local HUD benchmark (SF Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York) Optional photo checks Add your own Google Cloud Vision API key to check whether listing photos appear on real-estate sites or stock-photo libraries, or carry an agency watermark. Google bills your own project; Craig shows how many checks you've used each month. Private by design • Listing text is checked on your computer and never leaves your browser • No account, no analytics, no tracking • Photo checks send only the listing's public photo addresses to Google, using your key Craig points out things worth a closer look. It can't tell you for certain whether a listing is or isn't a scam.
