Overlay not working

The overlay does not work when a pdf file is opened on the chrome browser. Also, is there a shortcut to hide the overlay? Some times the red 'X' gets stuck or lost if the overlay is cast too wide, resulting in me needing to exit the entire browser and restart. Any tips?
