Coursewake for CUNY Brightspace
Overview
CUNY Brightspace and Schedule Builder, calmer: every deadline in one place, grade estimates, professor and textbook cards.
Private beta: Coursewake turns on with the tester code from your invite. Coursewake makes CUNY's Brightspace learning platform and Schedule Builder calmer. It puts your deadlines, estimates and course choices in one place, with the tools you reach for most. ON BRIGHTSPACE (brightspace.cuny.edu) - Dashboard: replaces the homepage with one view of what is due this week, what is past due but still accepted, and what opens soon, across your current courses. Three layouts: Brief, Horizon and Courses. A menu item brings the classic homepage back at any time. - Grade estimates: an estimate for each course, with a best case and how much of the course has counted so far. Weights come from your instructor's weighted gradebook when there is one, from a grading breakdown found in the syllabus (you confirm it), or from a short form. Estimates are not official grades. A What if panel lets you try scores and shows the projected final and what you need on the rest to reach A, B or C. - Course page bar with what is next in that course and quick links. Announcements, with a mark for what is new since your last visit. - Instructor feedback shown under each assignment on the Assignments list. - Ctrl+K search (Cmd+K on Mac): jump to any course tool, assignment or quiz. - Calendar export: download an .ics file of your due dates and quiz windows and import it into the calendar app you already use. - Themes: Coursewake Light, Coursewake Black (a true-black dark mode), a softer dark, and popular open-source palettes. Every colour is adjusted to meet WCAG AA contrast. You can import a theme from a file or a GitHub link. - Copy for AI: copies your due dates and grades, or one assignment's instructions, to your clipboard as Markdown, to paste into a notes app or an assistant of your choice. The extension itself sends it nowhere. - WeBWorK: if a course uses it, your own scores and due dates join the dashboard, Ctrl+K search, calendar export and reminders. The first time you sync a course, Chrome asks once to allow that course's own WeBWorK server, and only that one. Say no and WeBWorK stays a link. - Tidy-ups: hides the course banner image, the floating chat button and a few repeated homepage panels, widens pages, and puts the course code first in browser tab titles, with a tab icon in the course's colour. ON SCHEDULE BUILDER (sb.cunyfirst.cuny.edu) - A calmer look (switch it off any time), course attributes shown as chips, and a summary of the schedule you are building: days on campus, first and last class, longest gap. - Professor cards: click an instructor's name for their sections this term, ratings and reviews from RateMyProfessors, research and career history from OpenAlex and ORCID, and, for City Tech, the faculty directory. - Textbook cards: click a section's book for library, used and rental links, a copy to borrow on Open Library when there is one, and free OpenStax books on the same subject. - It never clicks, adds, pins or saves anything for you. IN THE TOOLBAR - A badge counts what is due in the next 24 hours, plus anything late that you can still hand in. Click the icon for a short Due soon list. - Optional deadline reminders, off until you turn them on in Settings. Chrome asks to allow notifications then. PRIVACY - Your coursework stays in your browser. Nothing is read from Brightspace or WeBWorK until you click Turn on in the first-run card. - Professor and textbook lookups ask Chrome for permission the first time. They send only an instructor's name and college, or a book's title and author, to those public sites, and only when you open a card. The one exception is the optional City Tech instructor photos setting, off by default, which looks up the City Tech instructors shown on the page. - Optional, off until you choose it: encrypted backup, so your settings and cached data follow you to your other computers. The key stays in your own Chrome profile; our server holds data it cannot read. - Optional, only when you click Send: feedback about a page. You see a screenshot of that page and mark it up (Hide covers anything private), add a note, and send it. The report carries the extension version and, unless you untick the technical details, details such as the page's address without anything after "?", its title and your browser; the editor lists exactly what is sent before you send. It is encrypted in your browser to the developer's key before it is sent to our own service. - Optional, off until you switch it on: a snapshot file, a JSON copy of your dashboard data saved to Downloads/brightspace-plus/snapshot.json for tools you choose. - Read only: it never submits, edits, enrolls or deletes anything on these sites. - No analytics unless you turn on anonymous counts (a few numbers a day, never names, courses or grades). No ads, no remote code. - Delete your data in Settings, or by removing the extension. - Full policy: https://coursewake-cloud.coursewake.workers.dev/privacy Coursewake is an independent project.
