cost-lens
Overview
List-price cost estimates next to billed resources in the AWS console.
cost-lens shows what your AWS resources cost, right in the AWS Management Console. On the list pages it supports, each row gets a small badge with an estimated cost at on-demand list price, such as ~$3.80/mo beside an EC2 instance. Hover over or focus a badge to see the hourly and monthly figures, the assumptions behind them, any notes, the date of the price list used and a link to the official AWS pricing page. HOW TO READ A BADGE - ~$33/mo: the estimated monthly cost at list price, for a resource running all month. - + usage: the resource also has charges that depend on use (for example data processed or requests). The badge covers only the fixed part; the tooltip lists the usage rates without guessing a quantity. - A bare rate, such as $0.4000/M requests or $0.0230/GB-mo: the resource bills only by use, so the badge shows the rate. (tiered) marks a tiered rate shown at its first paid tier, and (after free tier) a rate whose first tier is free. - up to: an upper bound, for example a snapshot priced at its full size or a serverless database at its maximum capacity. - $0 compute: a stopped instance. n/a: the price list has no entry for that row. WHAT IT COVERS 53 AWS console list pages, from EC2 instances and databases to networking, security, storage and machine learning. EC2 covers both on-demand and spot instances, with spot priced from a bundled spot price snapshot. Database, cluster and container pages cover the main managed engines, including Aurora and Fargate tasks. Networking and security pages cover gateways, endpoints, VPN connections, firewalls, DNS, keys and certificates. Services that bill only by use, such as storage buckets, functions, queues, topics and streams, show their rates instead of a monthly estimate. Prices are included for the 34 commercial AWS Regions, wherever each service is offered. AWS GovCloud (US) and the China Regions are not included. Badges follow the console's dark mode and stay in place as you sort, filter, page and refresh. WHAT THE NUMBERS ARE Every badge is an estimate at public list price, from the AWS Price List. Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, negotiated discounts, credits, free tiers and taxes are not applied, so your bill can differ. The prices are bundled in the extension and refreshed regularly; each tooltip shows the price-list date. Spot prices come from a snapshot, not live prices. PRIVACY cost-lens needs no AWS credentials, makes no AWS API calls and never reads billing data. It requests no browser permissions. It reads only the console page you are on, to find the resource tables it prices, and uses the page's content only inside your browser; nothing is stored and nothing leaves your browser. There is no analytics or telemetry. Its only network activity is loading its own bundled price files. cost-lens is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Amazon Web Services.
