CopyOnSelect brings terminal-style copy-on-select to your browser. Select text with your mouse and it is copied automatically as plain text, ready to paste anywhere. A brief glass shimmer follows the selected text after a successful copy. HOW IT WORKS • Drag to select text, double-click a word, or triple-click a paragraph. • Paste normally with Ctrl+V on Windows/Linux or Command+V on macOS. • Click the pinned CopyOnSelect toolbar icon to turn automatic copying ON or OFF. Each browser profile remembers its own setting. SMALL AND PRIVATE • Everything runs locally in your browser. • No accounts, analytics, ads, tracking, or network requests. • Does not read existing clipboard contents or store selected text. • No runtime dependencies or remote code. • Free and open source under the MIT license. DETAILS The native selection highlight stays intact. Selected text is copied without formatting, preserving the whitespace returned by the browser. Ordinary text fields and editable content are supported. Standard password fields and whitespace-only selections are ignored. Keyboard-only selections do not copy automatically. Reduced-motion preferences are respected. LIMITATIONS Works on HTTPS pages and other secure contexts, including localhost. Ordinary insecure HTTP pages are unsupported. Browser settings pages, the Chrome Web Store, other extensions, and built-in PDF viewers block content scripts. Some embedded frames and custom editors restrict selection or clipboard access. Local files require “Allow access to file URLs” in the extension settings. PERMISSIONS Clipboard writing copies the text you select. Local storage remembers the ON/OFF setting. Webpage access detects selections and displays the shimmer on pages you allow; it is not used for browsing-history collection.
