CookieGhost
Overview
Anonymize your cookies. Websites work normally — but trackers get garbage data.
CookieGhost doesn't block cookies. It doesn't delete them. It poisons them. Every website you visit drops tracking cookies to build a profile about you — your browsing habits, interests, purchases, and identity. Traditional privacy tools block or delete these cookies, which often breaks websites or triggers annoying cookie walls. CookieGhost takes a different approach: it lets tracking cookies exist, but replaces their values with realistic random data in real-time. Google Analytics gets a fake client ID. Facebook gets a bogus pixel ID. Trackers think they're working, but your profile is pure noise. HOW IT WORKS: - Automatically detects 60+ known tracking cookies (Google Analytics, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, HubSpot, and more) - Replaces values with format-correct random data that passes validation - Preserves functional cookies (login sessions, CSRF tokens, preferences) so websites work normally - Strips cookies entirely from 50+ hardcore tracker domains THREE PROTECTION MODES: - Aggressive: Randomizes all uncertain cookies - Balanced: Smart classification with conservative defaults - Gentle: Only randomizes confirmed tracking cookies PRIVACY FIRST: - Zero data collection — everything stays on your device - No accounts, no analytics, no telemetry - Open source and fully auditable Don't block. Don't delete. Poison the well. --- SINGLE PURPOSE DESCRIPTION (required by Chrome): CookieGhost replaces tracking cookie values with random data so websites work normally but ad trackers receive meaningless information. PERMISSIONS JUSTIFICATION: - cookies: Core functionality — detecting and modifying tracking cookies in real-time - storage: Saving user settings (protection mode, whitelisted sites) locally - activeTab: Displaying per-site cookie statistics in the extension popup - alarms: Scheduling periodic randomization seed resets - declarativeNetRequest + declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess: Blocking cookies from known tracker domains via header modification rules - host_permissions <all_urls>: Required to intercept tracking cookies on any website the user visits. The extension must monitor cookie changes across all sites to provide comprehensive tracking protection.
