Console+ for Salesforce
Overview
Apex IDE for Salesforce: multi-tab editor, SOQL explorer, tests, coverage, and diff — opens as a standalone window.
Console+ for Salesforce is a modern Apex developer console that opens as its own standalone window on top of your Salesforce org. Edit Apex classes, run tests, review code coverage, explore data with SOQL, and compare code — without fighting the limitations of the classic Developer Console. If you write Apex every day, you already know the pain: the built-in Developer Console is slow, cramped, and hard to work in for serious coding. Console+ gives you an IDE-style experience while staying connected to your live Salesforce session — no separate login, no API keys to manage, and no leaving your org. WHY INSTALL CONSOLE+ • Work in a dedicated IDE window instead of a tiny embedded console • Use a multi-tab Monaco editor (the same engine that powers VS Code) • Run one or many test classes with live progress and persistent results • Explore Salesforce data with a full SOQL Data Explorer, not a basic query box • See line-level coverage and org-wide coverage in one place • Diff and merge code changes side by side • Open SOQL from Apex with one click using gutter icons • Switch between light and dark themes for long coding sessions Console+ is built for Apex developers, Salesforce consultants, admins who write automation, and teams who want a faster daily workflow inside Production, Sandbox, and Scratch orgs. HOW IT WORKS 1. Log into any supported Salesforce org in Chrome. 2. Click the Console+ extension icon. 3. A standalone Console+ window opens using your current Salesforce session. 4. Browse classes, edit Apex, run tests, query data, and review coverage against your live org. Your session is read from the Salesforce tab you already have open. Console+ does not ask you to re-authenticate with a separate username and password. CORE FEATURES 1) APEX CODE EDITOR • Monaco-powered Apex editor with syntax highlighting • Multi-tab workflow so you can keep several classes open at once • Dirty-state indicators so you know which tabs have unsaved changes • Save to org using Salesforce Tooling / Metadata Container APIs • Keyboard save with Cmd/Ctrl + S • Refresh class body from the org when you need the latest version • Search, line numbers, and minimap for faster navigation 2) TEST EXECUTION BUILT FOR REAL WORK • Run tests from the editor on test classes • Select multiple test classes in the sidebar and run them together • Choose Parallel or Serial execution (similar to Developer Console options) • See live progress while Salesforce is still running methods • Keep session-persistent test results until you close the extension • Expand each class to review every method: pass/fail, runtime, messages, and stack traces • Recover results even if polling is interrupted, so finished Salesforce runs are not lost 3) CODE COVERAGE • Per-class coverage percentage in the editor toolbar • Toggle line-level coverage highlighting (covered vs uncovered lines) • Org-wide coverage overview with sortable columns • Highlight classes below the common 75% threshold • Jump from coverage results into the related class 4) SOQL DATA EXPLORER A full data workspace for querying, inspecting, and exporting Salesforce records: • Multi-line SOQL composer with a modern Data Explorer layout • Object and field suggestions as you type • Relationship field drill-down (for example Account__r.Name) • WHERE clause assistance, including picklist values from describe metadata • Query templates for common objects • Query history and saved queries stored locally • Run with Cmd/Ctrl + Enter • Format SOQL with Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + F • LIMIT warnings before running broad queries • COUNT shortcut for quick row counts • Query plan / explain support • Tooling API mode for metadata queries • Include deleted records with ALL ROWS • Automatic multi-page fetch for large result sets • Cancel long-running fetches • Sortable, filterable results grid • Copy any cell to clipboard • Export to CSV, Excel, JSON, and PDF • Delete records by Id with confirmation • Multiple query tabs, with close support and Cmd/Ctrl + W 5) APEX TO SOQL BRIDGE • Magnifying-glass icons appear in the editor gutter next to SOQL queries • Works for multi-line bracket queries and common Database.query patterns • Click the icon to open that query in Data Explorer, ready to run 6) DIFF CHECKER • Side-by-side comparison of org code vs pasted or alternate code • Highlight added and removed lines • Navigate change hunks • Apply merge actions when reconciling differences • Open from the editor toolbar or the top navigation 7) CODE QUALITY AND PROBLEMS • Live Apex linting while you type • Detects common issues such as SOQL/DML in loops, hardcoded IDs, missing security enforcement patterns, and other best-practice warnings • Problems panel for quick review of findings 8) WORKSPACE UX • Resizable sidebar and bottom panel • Unified bottom panel for Test Results and Coverage • Light and dark themes with persistence • Searchable class list • Test badges for likely test classes • Keyboard shortcuts for faster SOQL workflows WHO IT IS FOR • Apex developers who need a faster daily editor than Developer Console • Consultants jumping between sandboxes and client orgs • Teams validating coverage before deployments • Anyone who regularly writes and debugs SOQL against live data • Developers who want test execution and results in one place WHY IT IS BETTER THAN DEVELOPER CONSOLE FOR MANY TASKS Developer Console can feel outdated for modern Apex work. Console+ focuses on the workflows developers actually repeat every day: • Editing and saving Apex classes • Running single or multi-class tests • Understanding coverage quickly • Querying and exporting data • Comparing code versions • Keeping context across tabs and tools Instead of switching between Setup pages, Developer Console tabs, and external tools, Console+ keeps the core loop in one dedicated window. SUPPORTED ENVIRONMENTS • Production orgs • Sandboxes • Scratch orgs • Lightning and Setup experiences on supported Salesforce domains Note: Experience Cloud / community sites are not supported. Open Console+ from a standard Salesforce Lightning or Setup tab while logged in. PRIVACY AND DATA HANDLING (SUMMARY) • Console+ uses your active Salesforce session to call Salesforce APIs on your behalf. • Class bodies, query results, and test results are processed for the features you use in the app. • Local browser storage is used for preferences such as theme, saved SOQL queries, query history, and test settings. • Console+ is designed to work with your existing org permissions. It does not bypass Salesforce security. Always use Console+ only in orgs where you are authorized to view and modify Apex and data. GETTING STARTED 1. Install Console+ from the Chrome Web Store. 2. Open a Salesforce org and log in. 3. Click the Console+ icon in Chrome. 4. Select an Apex class from the sidebar to begin editing. 5. Use SOQL Query for data exploration, Run Tests for Apex tests, and Coverage for quality checks. TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS • Keep at least one Salesforce tab open and logged in. • Use Parallel test mode for faster runs when your org allows it. • Use Serial mode when diagnosing flaky or data-dependent tests. • Add LIMIT clauses to exploratory SOQL before large exports. • Use the SOQL gutter icon in Apex to jump straight into Data Explorer. • Use Diff Checker before overwriting local edits with org refresh. ROADMAP DIRECTION Console+ continues to expand toward a complete Salesforce developer workstation experience. Areas under active improvement include faster navigation, better save/compile feedback, debug log viewing, richer settings, and more SOQL productivity tools. SUMMARY Install Console+ if you want a faster, cleaner, more productive Apex developer experience inside Salesforce. Edit with a modern editor. Test with live progress. Query with a real Data Explorer. Review coverage visually. Compare code with a proper diff. All in one standalone window connected to your org. Console+ for Salesforce — edit, test, query, and cover with confidence.
