CommentThat
Overview
Read and join public discussions about any web page — comments appear in the browser side panel, the page itself is never modified.
CommentThat adds a public comment layer to the web. Open the side panel on any page and read what other people said about it — or say something yourself. The page you are reading is never modified. Comments live on CommentThat, attached to the page's address, which means they work on sites that never had a comment section, closed theirs, or locked the thread. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Read public comments on any page, without an account • Post comments and replies once you sign in • Like or dislike comments, and rate the page itself • Report anything that breaks the rules — every moderation action is recorded • Get a notification when someone replies to you • Follow a discussion by Atom feed, with no account at all HOW IT WORKS The panel reads the address of the tab you are on and loads the discussion for it. Addresses are normalised first — tracking parameters and fragments are removed — so everyone talking about the same page ends up in one conversation instead of a dozen near-identical ones. PRIVACY • The extension communicates with commentthat.org and nothing else • It runs no code on the pages you visit. Its single content script runs only on commentthat.org, where it sets one attribute so the website can tell you already have the extension and stop advertising it to you • Comment text is rendered as plain text, never as HTML • Your reading history inside CommentThat is private by default, and you can delete it • Only cookies strictly necessary for signing in — no tracking, analytics or advertising cookies • Privacy policy: https://commentthat.org/privacy PERMISSIONS, AND WHY EACH IS NEEDED • sidePanel — draws the panel itself • tabs — reads the address of the active tab, to know which discussion to load • storage — keeps your sign-in session and panel settings on your device • identity — the sign-in flow (OAuth authorization code with PKCE) • Access to commentthat.org — the API the panel reads comments from and posts them to Available in English, Polish, German, Dutch, French, Czech, Italian and Spanish. CommentThat is free, open to anyone aged 16 and over, and never sells your data.
